Job Description:

Essential Job Functions

1. Takes direction from supervisor (QC Manager, Field Layout Engineer).
2. Establishes building corners and permanent reference points to allow back checks of building location.
3. Lay out wall / column / anchor bolt pattern center lines for correct installation of rebar, formwork embeds etc
4. Sets and maintains benchmarks and control lines on each floor for use in layout, and verify that workers are using proper elevations and control lines.
5. Checks slab for elevation and alignment during concrete pours.
6. Performs as-built surveys to verify correct placement of work and to identify conflicts between items of work (i.e., where concrete slab edge or walls have encroached on the exterior skin), and may help maintain as-built drawings.
7. Read drawings to identify required dimensions to perform layout listed above and confirms no conflicts between drawing sets (Structural, Architectural, Civil, Etc.)
8. Calculates earth, rock, and concrete quantities accurately.
9. Assist with the coordination of shop drawings with contract drawings, verifies accuracy, and proposes solutions to discrepancies between the drawings.
10. Responsible for care, maintenance, and calibration of engineering equipment.
11. Compile and maintain project record and as-built documents. Ensures storage protocols are followed.
12. Keep immediate working area clean. Must use broom and wheelbarrows and follow material procedures.
13. Identifies and reports safety hazards. Takes all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
14. Demonstrates safe working practices and complies with all safety requirements.

Work Environment
The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site, and in an office trailer where the project is monitored and daily decisions are made about construction activities. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats, safety glasses, and high visibility clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, tolerate heights, able to talk and hear others speaking, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and to operate a computer keyboard and phone while maintaining visual acuity. The employee must be able to lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and 20 pounds constantly. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Expected Hours of Work
Full time position, with occasional extended hours and weekends.
Travel
Must have reliable transportation. Must be willing to travel 60 miles a day dependent on project location relative to where the employee lives. Majority of travel done during work hours; overnight stays may be required.
Required Education and Experience
1. Five (5) years of experience as a tradesperson in construction.
2. Graduation from relevant trade school with certificate in surveying.
Or equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience
1. Basic understanding of Trimble and Nikon equipment
2. Basic understanding of research methodology, data analysis, and estimation metrics.
3. Experience within general trade carpentry.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
1. Well organized, excellent communication, and negotiation abilities.
2. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
3. Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions, trade practices.
4. Have the ability to read a Blueprint.
5. Familiarity with construction project management software.
6. Strong computer knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
7. Ability to work well with supervision and peers.
8. Ability to problem solve when errors occur.
9. Must be conscious of time schedules and deadlines.
10. Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
