Specialist- Aerospace Scholar Technology Curriculum - Central Campus
FUNCTION: Serves as the Technology leader for all Aerospace Scholars education programs, to ensure the appropriate technology is used and available for curriculum as well as for reporting.
Essential Job Functions:
Contractor shall:
- Reserve a physical location to host the closing ceremony.
- Purchase approved food items for the closing ceremony.
- Confirm attendance of external stakeholders for the closing ceremony.
- Request official visitor badges for external stakeholders attending the closing ceremony.
- Organize exhibits, photography, and videography services for onsite events with final approval from the NASA activity manager.
- Purchase and distribute all materials and supplies required to facilitate the onsite event, including shipping.
- Provide appropriate level of staffing during the 3-day JSC onsite events, one-day Texas A&M event. Historically, the following has been needed:
- Personnel for rocket lab to provide technical assistance (10 staff for 3 evening hours)
- Personnel to escort participants in JSC lab visits (10:1 visitor: escort ratio enforced)
- Conduct activities that contribute to the evaluation and improvement of the HAS program.
- Disseminate surveys provided by internal and external evaluators.
- Organize focus groups for internal and external evaluators.
- Organize, attend, and report minutes from meetings with internal and external stakeholders, including travel to stakeholder locations.
- Collect and analyze program components from national aerospace programs that engage grades 8-12, including travel to onsite events.
- Create status and forecast reports as needed to assist with reporting to NASA HQ, success stories, quarterly High School Aerospace Scholars activity newsletters for review by the NASA activity manager, and a final report at the conclusion of the High School Aerospace Scholars activity 2 weeks after conclusion of the cycle.
- Create recruitment and retention plans for program expansion components.
- Create implementation plans for new program components.
- Update the work plan and implementation schedule to include new program components.
- Plan and conduct a minimum of 4 virtual SME events for High School Aerospace Scholars STEM Engagement Kit participants.
- Verify new content and equipment meets NASA IT security requirements
- Obtain and maintain any licenses, certifications, or subscriptions required to operate new equipment and IT tools.
- Develop and implement a loan process for the activity kits.
Additional Job Functions:
Contractor shall:
- Provide technical expertise to update the academic materials, to include graphics and websites, associated with the High School Aerospace Scholars online courses.
- Identify training needs and develop and deliver training and materials (synchronous and asynchronous) for participants, educators, SMEs, and mentors.
- Submit session proposals to the appropriate organization.
- Use a NASA approved system to support and facilitate student, faculty, NASA mentor activities and interactions such as content delivery, discussion boards, deliverable submissions, content repository, meetings, etc.
- Create and facilitate training for all staff and participants supporting engineering design challenges.
- Create a sustainability plan for additional course offerings.
- Design new courses for the expansion of HAS.
- Incorporate newly developed content and IT tools.
- Provide technical expertise to update the academic materials, to include graphics, websites, and additional online tools, associated with the HAS virtual summer courses.
- Develop and implement training for summer staff to include Game Moderators, Onsite Counselors, NASA SMEs and summer interns.
- Organize registration and logistics with students and their parent/guardian, such as lodging, meals, and transportation to the center from their Texas residence.
- Disseminate and collect all forms and approvals required for student participation in the onsite events.
- Disseminate surveys provided by internal and external evaluators.
- Organize focus groups for internal and external evaluators.

- Knowledge of current principles and practices for K12 students and educators;
- Knowledge of a variety of online tools;

- Three to five years experience in developing high school curriculum;
- Three to five years experience in teaching math or science;
- Three to five years experience in teaching in a virtual environment;
- Three to five years experience in STEM Gateway for OSTEM or other;
- Three to five years experience in facilitating learner-centered design applications;
Preferred Experience:
- More than five years experience in developing high school curriculum;
- More than five years experience in teaching math or science;
