Specialist - Aerospace Scholar Education Curriculum - Central Campus

FUNCTION: Serves as the curriculum leader for all Aerospace Scholars education programs, working closely with the writing team at Texas A&M University.
Essential Job Functions:
Contractor shall:
  • Submit the student retention incentive plan for review and approval by the HAS Activity Manager before implementing the plan. An absence of feedback from activity manager 5 days after plan submission is considered concurrence with the contractor's proposed plan.
  • Pay student retention incentive stipends up to $25,000 (collectively) for meeting the designated benchmarks.
  • Promote the High School Aerospace Scholars activity through various mechanisms.
  • Develop and facilitate 4 - 6 online information sessions to inform the public of the opportunity.
  • Disseminate promotional materials at up to 10 large-scale in-person events, including travel beyond the primary place of performance and events held outside of normal business hours.
  • Disseminate information to students, educators, and STEM organizations during STEM conference presentations.
  • Develop session proposals for NASA activity manager review and approval.
  • Submit session proposals to the appropriate organization.
  • Attend and facilitate the conference session if chosen, including travel beyond the primary place of performance.
  • Develop content for the High School Aerospace Scholars website and coordinate with website team to edit/update website content as needed
  • Develop High School Aerospace Scholars documents and digital/print materials for the Challenge Descriptions, Proposal Guidelines, FAQs, Eligibility guidelines, timeline, and project related email templates.
  • Submit all public-facing content and presentations for review and approval by the High School Aerospace Scholars Activity Manager prior to presentation or distribution to the public. An absence of feedback from activity manager 5 days after plan submission is considered concurrence with the contractor's proposed plan.
  • Document participant success/impact stories inclusive of participants transition into the STEM workforce and awards received related to High School Aerospace Scholars.
  • Attend and provide activity updates for OSTEM meetings such as JSC OSTEM staff meetings, High School Aerospace Scholars meetings, OSTEM Townhalls
  • Attend and complete JSC Official Escort training courses and facility access courses.
  • Conduct activities associated with the application process.
  • Create and update engagement openings in NASA STEM Gateway application system as appropriate.
  • Create and update student application using NASA provided application system -NASA STEM Gateway.
  • Plan and conduct a minimum of 4 virtual SME events for High School Aerospace Scholars STEM Engagement Kit participants.
  • Create and facilitate training for all staff and participants supporting the use of the activity kits.
  • Publish new courses including all items in requirement 3.4.1
Additional Job Functions:
Contractor shall:
  • Develop content for the High School Aerospace Scholars website and coordinate with website team to edit/update website content as needed
  • Oversee grading of assignments by the Technical Reviewers.
  • Monitor Learning Management System operations, Technical Reviewer status, and student progress.
  • Transfer current course content to new platforms.
  • Modify content to meet NASA IT security requirements.
  • Verify new content meets NASA IT security requirements.
  • Assign students to teams based on performance in online course and based on student preference as possible.
  • Execute using available online and gamification elements.
  • Manage team selections based on performance in summer virtual course and communicate with students.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of Texas Aerospace Scholars Program;
  • Knowledge of current principles and practices for K12 students and educators;
  • Ability to problem-solving and make decisions in a changing environment;
  • Active listening skills;
  • Communicate effectively using professional written, verbal, and oral techniques;
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs and PowerPoint software;
  • Multi-tasking abilities.
Required Education:
  • Bachelor Degree
Preferred Education:
  • Master's Degree
Required Experience:
  • Three to five years experience in developing high school curriculum;
  • Three to five years experience in teaching math or science;
  • Three to five years experience in teaching in a virtual environment.
Preferred Experience:
  • More than five years experience in developing high school curriculum;
  • More than five years experience in teaching math or science;
  • Three to five years experience in teaching in a virtual environment.
Note: This position has limited opportunity for remote work arrangements with appropriate approvals and in accordance with the policies, procedures, and needs of the College.

Salary Grade: 115

Salary is based on the Board-approved salary schedule for the current fiscal year. See Salary Schedule
