Salary/Grade: NEX/11

Target hiring range for this position will be between be Salary range is as $24.68-$25.79 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Job Summary:

The technologist supports the administrative and technical staff of the CTC Transplant Immunology Lab & Biorepository. The position requires use of specialized databases and other computer programs, as well as laboratory skills.

Conducts experimental research lab work. Assists in design of one or more specific phase(s) of entire project(s). Completes mathematical calculations, &/or computer tasks &/or assists in judging validity of data. Follows appropriate protocols, policies, procedures, regulations, Good Clinical & Good Laboratory Practices.

Must possess a good eye for detail, manual dexterity and must have the ability to maintain focus and mental concentration, due to the risks stemming from a sample switch.

This position will require weekend on call hours and may include some overtime.

Please note: Employee will require access to NM/Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Lurie Children's Hospital.

Employee affiliation to NM requires yearly influenza vaccination documentation submission or proof of accommodation/ religious/medical exemption

Specific Responsibilities:

Technical

  • Follows pre-defined protocols, policies, procedures, regulations using Good Clinical & Good Laboratory Practices. May complete basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Performs clinical research study sample processing and shipping following established detailed protocols.
  • Enters research samples into multiple databases following established detailed protocols. Uses multiple software programs to generate sample labels and track specimen location.
  • Verifies study sample information according to established protocols.
  • Works with senior lab staff and hospital reference labs, handles unresolved workflow incidents, troubleshoots where needed.
  • Prioritizes specimen processing based on established priorities.
  • Sets-up, operates & maintains standard lab equipment.
  • Completes daily general lab maintenance.
  • Retrieves clinical and research samples from storage for shipping (domestically and internationally) to other research centers or clinicians.
  • Retrieves patient samples for processing from Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Lurie Children's Hospital, as needed.
  • After sufficient level of experience is acquired, may help train other technologists.

Administrative

  • Records and maintains compliance data and results & may maintain databases.
  • Completes standard & routine clerical duties such as copying, filing, data entry, invoice submission, word processing, etc.
  • Maintains inventory of reagents and lab supplies.
  • Follows up with vendors to ensure inventory will not be compromised due to backorders/shipment issues
  • Participates in continuing educational activities.

Finance

  • Tracks & summarizes lab supply expenses.
  • Verifies accuracy of invoices.
  • Obtains sales quotes for lab equipment & supplies.

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a scientific major or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. in science
  • Some previous experience with standard laboratory operating procedures.

  • Knowledge of FreezerPro Software, Histotrac and/or Accsence Monitoring System
