Housing Specialist I:

The Housing Opportunities Commission of Montgomery County (HOC) was established in 1974 to better respond to the County's need for affordable housing. HOC is authorized to acquire, own, lease, and operate housing; to provide for the construction or renovation of housing; obtain financial assistance from any public or private source to assist its housing activities; and arrange for social services, resident services, and daycare.

Job Description:

The Temporary Housing Specialist I will determine eligibility and continued participation for HOC Housing Choice Voucher applicants and families. We are hiring two positions for the Housing Specialist I in the Housing Resources Division.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience

  • At least one (1) year of experience in affordable housing or customer service

Education:

  • Requires Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Public Administration, Government or related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. Low income residents in Montgomery County with the above qualifications are encouraged to apply.

Certification:

  • Must obtain program certification within six (6) months of hire

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of or the ability to acquire knowledge of subsidized housing program guidelines and federal, state and local landlord-tenant laws is necessary
  • Strong communication skills and good customer service are required
  • Experience in the Housing Choice Voucher, Tax Credit or other subsidized program is a plus
  • Must have a great verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office

*Salary determined by department budget - Offer commensurate with experience
