The SAFE Registered Nurse provides compassionate, trauma-informed medical care and forensic evidence collection to patients who have experienced sexual assault, neglect, interpersonal violence, and other forms of trauma. This role encompasses all victims of abuse across the lifespan. This position requires a deeply empathetic approach to patients.

Qualifications:

This position requires 40-hour adults/adolescents didactic training and an 8-hour simulation day, facilitated through the department of health and human services. There are additional requirements to become credentialed in this role after training and will require regular on-going meetings and training.

Key responsibilities:

This position will require you to be on call 48 hours per month. Our team provides 24-hour regional coverage to emergency departments.

Summary:

The Registered Nurse - SAFE (Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner) Certified role provides timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to the sexual assault, domestic violence, child or elder abuse survivor. This may include a medical forensic exam, prophylaxis for pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, photographic documentation, referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up, support, education and participation in legal proceedings.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required; BSN preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: Current applicable state(s) license as a Registered Professional Nurse required. Current BLS Certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date.
  3. Experience: At least one year of clinical experience that is hospital, urgent care, walk-in, women's health or primary care setting. Two years is preferred.
