The Spirit of the Position:

The Insurance, Risk, & Actuarial Financial Analyst reports to the Deputy CFO and plays a key role in linking finance, operations, and our insurance program. This position focuses on building and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs), supporting internal cost allocation and pricing models, coordinating actuarial reviews with third-party actuaries, and providing actionable insights to leadership. The analyst will also monitor claims and safety performance, build dashboards, and partner with business units to ensure risk and insurance costs are transparent, fair, and strategically managed.

This is a finance and actuarial-oriented role with heavy exposure to risk and insurance - ideal for a candidate with strong FP&A, actuarial, or finance skills who is comfortable working with actuaries, claims data, and operational leaders.

Responsibilities:

Insurance Finance & KPIs



  • Develop, maintain, and publish dashboards and scorecards to track insurance and risk KPIs (loss ratios, claims trends, safety metrics, allocations).
  • Analyze insurance P&L performance and provide variance explanations and insights for senior management.
  • Partner with Finance and Operations to integrate insurance cost drivers into forecasts, budgets, and strategic plans.
  • Measure success and failure of risk department initiatives through development of new KPIs and financial measures.


Internal Allocation & Pricing



  • Support development of internal insurance cost allocation methodologies across regions/business units.
  • Assist in incorporating insurance/risk costs into client pricing and renewal proposals.
  • Provide unit economics and financial impact analysis for new business opportunities.


Actuarial Review Coordination



  • Serve as liaison between LAZ and third-party actuaries for reserve analyses, pricing reviews, and annual actuarial studies.
  • Prepare data packages, validate accuracy, and coordinate information flow with actuaries.
  • Interpret actuarial reports, translate results into financial and operational implications, and communicate key insights to leadership.


Claims & Safety Monitoring



  • Monitor claims activity and trends, highlighting emerging risks or adverse developments.
  • Support risk management and safety teams with data-driven insights to evaluate the effectiveness of safety initiatives.
  • Partner with claims administrators and insurance brokers to ensure timely reporting and resolution.


Cross-Functional Partnering



  • Present analyses and insights into Finance, Operations, and senior leadership in clear, business-oriented language.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Risk, and external partners (actuaries, brokers, TPAs) to ensure alignment of risk/insurance strategies.
  • Collaborate with internal Microsoft Power BI team to develop impactful reporting for all levels of the organization.


Requirements:

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related quantitative field.
  • CPA, CFA, CPCU, or progress toward actuarial exams a plus but not required.


Experience:



  • 3+ years of experience in FP&A, financial analysis, or insurance/risk finance.


  • Experience coordinating with actuaries, insurance brokers, or TPAs.
  • Experience analyzing, implementing and managing Captive insurance structures.
  • Familiarity with insurance accounting concepts, claims processes, or reserving practices.
  • Exposure to insurance finance, risk management, or claims analytics preferred.
  • Strong Excel skills; experience with BI/dashboard tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).

  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.


  • Excellent communication and presentation skills - ability to "translate actuarial and insurance data into business terms."
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and integrity.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time to meet deadlines.
