Position Summary |
The new responsibilities now require the Research Technician to work independently conducting experiments while using standardized research protocols and tests, use expertise and professional judgment to adapt to research processes in response to changing conditions, apply techniques and procedures for multiple concurrent assignments, assist in research project planning/budgeting, plan and monitor laboratory resource use, supervise trainees in experimental execution, and prepare both scientific and administrative reports. This position should work with a higher level of specialized skills, techniques, and procedures while working on experiments within the lab. |

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
The applicant should have the knowledge and ability to adapt to work processes and methods based on findings and literature review with limited supervision. Ability to prepare/assist in research project budget(s). While working on experiments, ability to identify problems, troubleshoot, and analyze data. Knowledge and ability to plan and monitor resources that are needed to operate the lab daily (i.e., coordinate space, monitor supplies, quality assurance, safety measures, and ability to handle hazardous waste/materials.
Applicant should have a strong academic track record, work well in a goal-oriented team setting, have outstanding organizational skills, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Prefer candidates with experience with mammalian cell culture, organoid culture, basic biochemical and molecular biology techniques. Experience in gene expression, 3D organoids and monolayer transwell cultures, and primary human tissue culture will be an advantage to the applicant; molecular biology skills; mouse handling experience; microscopy;
CRISPR/cas9 design, plasmid engineering, making transgenic human intestinal stem cell lines experience.
Prefer candidates to be able to interact with internal contacts including the PI, research assistants, graduate students, Post Docs, Health and Safety officers, and animal care personnel to discuss and evaluate research results and to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the laboratory. Prefer candidates to be able to interact with external contacts such as researchers at other institutions, and staff at biotechnology and reagents companies to consult on research methods and to keep abreast of product information and developments. Prefer candidates that are exceptional at multitasking and are highly self-motivated. |
