Performs specialized work in conducting original research. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants. About the Department and/or College

Founded in 1925 as one of the university's four original colleges, the College of Arts & Sciences is comprised of 15departments, offering a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and natural sciences. The College has more than 10,000 students enrolled representing more than a quarter of the overall Texas Tech University student population while maintaining a 22:1student-to-faculty ratio.
The Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management offers a B.S.in Kinesiology and an M.S.in Kinesiology for over1,400 undergraduate and40 graduate students, respectively. The department enrolls over 400 under graduate students in the B.S. in Sport Management and over 50 master's degree students in the M.S. in Sport Management. It also offers a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology. Its building includes six classrooms, a student computer lab, and faculty offices.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Contribute to the Osteogen Tech-sponsored project titled "PEEK Modifications to Enhance Osteoblastogenesis for Improved Healing Outcomes" under the direction of Dr. Danielle Levitt
  • Optimization and hands-on troubleshooting of protocols and methods.
  • Carry out laboratory experiments with appropriate documentation.
  • Lab maintenance (e.g., safety records, inventory, routine) and organization.
  • Assist other members of the laboratory team in experiments.
  • Monitor adherence to safe laboratory practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with faculty, staff, and students orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn quickly, respond to constructive feedback, follow operational practices, and problem solve independently.
  • Be self-motivated and able to maintain efficiency while working independently.
  • Basic laboratory skills and knowledge of laboratory safety, including personal protective equipment.
  • Familiarity with cell culture.
  • Strong attention to detail in practice and in record keeping.
  • Ability to read and understand scientific journal articles and technical instructions.
Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Strong cell culture skills.
  • Strong pipetting skills.
  • Experience in sterile technique.
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following laboratory techniques: Colorimetric stains, fluorescent stains, brightfield microscopy, fluorescence microscopy, ELISAs, enzymatic assays, image analysis.
  • Basic understanding of tissue healing, especially bone healing.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a specialized field and one year research experience. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience presenting research in oral or written format (e.g., poster or podium presentation, abstract or manuscript preparation, etc.). Candidates with more extensive relevant education or experience will be given priority.
