We are seeking a talented Electronics Component Engineer to support our Electronics Design activity located in Radford, VA for our motion control products. This role is well suited for an Electrical Engineer who is interested in working in a hands-on, team-oriented, global environment. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for component engineering tasks for embedded motion controllers and servomotor drives. Duties will include managing component lifecycle for the products and working with the regulatory compliance team to ensure Product Environmental Compliance (PEC). We're looking for someone with strong problem-solving skills, electrical component analysis and a real passion for teamwork. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities:
- Identify and qualify alternate sources for components impacted by End of Life (EOL), extended lead times, or cost-related constraints to enhance supply chain resilience and minimize sourcing risks.
- Perform proactive lifecycle analysis and detailed Bill of Materials (BOM) scrubs to ensure accuracy, mitigate obsolescence, and support strategic sourcing decisions.
- Collect and manage PEC data to maintain adherence with global regulatory standards such as ROHS, REACH and other regulatory requirements in collaboration with the regulatory compliance team.
- Create and execute comprehensive test plans to validate alternative components and ensure they meet system-level performance and compliance requirements.
- Implement Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Deviations, and Product Change Notices (PCNs) in support of lifecycle transitions, cost-saving initiatives, and regulatory compliance.
- Lead weekly cross-functional meetings with stakeholders to review open component issues, align priorities, and accelerate resolution timelines.
Other Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with test engineers to do lab-based testing, verification, and troubleshooting of alternative components to ensure reliability and compatibility within existing circuit designs.
- Collaborate with power electronics, digital electronics, and firmware teams to ensure seamless integration and system-level alignment of qualified components.
Responsibilities will scale with experience. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed. Critical Competencies Key Competencies
- Good understanding of engineering documents (Schematics, Component Data Sheets, PCB Layout, assembly drawings, and product specifications)
- Ability to perform soldering and rework techniques for surface-mount and through-hole components, with attention to detail and adherence to quality standards.
- Familiarity with the use of oscilloscopes, and digital multi-meters and other lab equipment
- Ability to create and execute test plans, write reports and certify results.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from inspectors, managers, suppliers, and groups of engineers.
- Teamwork and Communication: Enthusiasm for collaboration, paired with clear reporting and presentation abilities.
- Self-Driven Focus: Proactive, detail-oriented approach to delivering reliable results.
Preferred Competencies
- Familiarity with requirements for RoHS, REACH and other regulatory requirements.
- Experience using electronic component lifecycle management tools (e.g., Silicon Expert or equivalent).
- Familiarity with engineering change control systems and workflows (e.g., ECOs, Deviations, part number revisions)
- Familiarity with Approved Vendor List (AVL) systems
- Familiarity with ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) precautions and lab safety practices.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field required.
- 3+ years of electrical component experience required.
Travel Requirements
- Occasional travel (both domestic and international) may be necessary (<5%)
- Must be willing and able to travel by all forms of transportation.
