Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Job Responsibilities:



  • Identifies evidenced-based practices to incorporate into population standards of practice.
  • Assists with the implementation of research findings into clinical practice standards.
  • Provides leadership to ensure evidence-based practices are administered to relevant patient populations.
  • Serves as clinical consultant and expert resource to nursing team members, leaders, other disciplines for a specified population to ensure optimal patient outcomes, demonstrating a holistic and caring approach to patient care.
  • Reviews and develops patient standards of practice and protocols to ensure evidence-based practice guidelines.
  • Collaborates with nursing and other disciplines to implement clinical practice standards for the assigned patient population.


The Clinical Nurse Specialist ensures optimal patient outcomes from a holistic perspective. Serves as a clinical expert for the designated patient population while guiding and developing standards for clinical practice in the assigned clinical specialty area. Serves as a role model for lifelong learning and advocating for optimal patient outcomes through evidence-based clinical practice. Incorporates a multidisciplinary approach to patient care to enhance patient outcomes for assigned populations.

Hours: full-time, M-F (regular office hours, with some flexibility as needed based on department needs)

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Education: Master's Degree in Advance Clinical Nursing Practice.
  • Experience: 3 years of clinical practice
  • Certifications: BLS (AHA), and Certified or achieve certification in specialty nursing practice within 12 months.
  • Licensure: Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Inpatient Oncology experience.
