THE POSITION

This is a Washington County internal promotional opportunity for current employees in the Road Maintenance Worker classification only.
The Operations and Maintenance Division within LUT is currently accepting applications for Senior Road Maintenance Workers to establish a pool of employees eligible to promote. Employees must meet the following eligibility requirements:
  • Meet the minimum qualifications of the Senior Road Maintenance Worker classification

  • Possess a satisfactory performance assessment and learning plan:

  • The employee "Meets Overall Job Requirements and QUALIFIES for step increase (if applicable)" on their last performance evaluation,

  • The employee does NOT have an active performance improvement plan, and

  • The employee has NOT been issued any written discipline during the 12 months preceding the posting date of this recruitment.

  • Possess a satisfactory safety record:

  • The employee has no more than two (2) preventable property damage-only incidents, during the 12 months preceding the posting date of this recruitment, less than $2500, per incident, and

  • The employee has zero (0) preventable property damage-only incidents, during the 24 months preceding the posting date of this recruitment, that equals or exceeds $2500.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Duties may include:

  1. Operates motorized vehicles and equipment for the purpose of road construction, road maintenance, emergency response or other assigned activities.
  2. Operates designated equipment to load, haul or dump a variety of road construction and maintenance materials including, but not limited to soil, vegetation, asphalt, aggregate, bridge timbers, guardrail components, and drainage pipes.
  3. Operates designated equipment to perform a variety of tasks related to road systems repair and maintenance which includes excavating assorted material, paving and patching roadways, mixing and applying liquid asphalt, maintaining and spreading gravel and other construction material.
  4. Trains and provides oversight of work when performing duties with personnel of a lower classification.
  5. Assists in creating a positive and supportive work environment; enforces a safe workplace; establishes a culture of teamwork and communication; creates a workplace that promotes the organizational values of workplace equity, diversity and inclusion and actively promotes an environment respectful of living and working in a multicultural society.
  6. Operate the tools and equipment from Schedule C - "Tools and Equipment for Road Maintenance Workers" (provided upon hire).
  7. Operates designated equipment to perform a variety of tasks related to lifting, moving, and hauling construction materials and equipment
  8. Assists in creating a positive and supportive work environment; enforces a safe workplace; establishes a culture of teamwork and communication; creates a workplace that promotes the organizational values of workplace diversity, equity and inclusion and actively promotes an environment respectful of living and working in a multicultural society.
  9. Operates and utilizes assorted hand and power tools to perform a variety of tasks.
  10. Assists with the construction, repair and replacement of structural and non-structural bridge components including timber, steel, and concrete elements.
  11. Performsthe duties of a competent person associated with certain activities such as, but not limited to, excavation, fall protection, scaffolding, crane operation, and respirable crystalline silica protections.
  12. Operates a hydraulic crane, with the appropriate certification, associated with bridge and culvert-related work.
  13. Performs appropriate pre-trip inspections of assigned equipment and reports deficiencies using defined forms and procedures.
  14. Performs minor maintenance of operated equipment which includes fueling, checking, and filling fluid levels and greasing components.
  15. Performs manual labor associated with road maintenance repair and constructionusing all associated equipment and tools properly and complies with safety rules and regulations.
  16. Tracks work time, equipment, and material usage, and reports the information using defined forms and procedures.
  17. Mentors, trains, and assists in the evaluation of subordinates' work performance to ensure accuracy and completion of assigned duties and assigns work according to changes in workload and priorities.
  18. Perform all Essential Job Duties and possess all Knowledge, Skills and Abilities of the Road Maintenance Worker I or Road Maintenance Worker II classifications, as needed or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or GED; AND
  • Four (4) years of experience in road construction, road maintenance, or heavy carpentry, to include two (2) years of commercial truck driving, operating construction equipment, farm equipment, or equivalent.
  • Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Oregon which includes, a current DOT Medical Certificate, a tanker endorsement and no restrictions on air brake, manual transmission and tractor trailer 5th wheel, and have an acceptable driving record.
  • All external candidates will be required to pass a post-offer physical abilities assessment and drug screening prior to employment.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Oregon which includes, a current DOT Medical Certificate, a tanker endorsement and no restrictions on air brake, manual transmission and tractor trailer 5th wheel, and have an acceptable driving record.

  3. Interviews Our goal is to schedule panel interviews with candidates that meet the minimum qualifications and qualify for a promotion as soon as possible
  4. Eligibility List: A rank-ordered eligibility list will be established based on the results of the interview. The top employees will be offered a promotion dependent on the number of vacancies. The eligibility list will remain active for six months and vacancies that occur during that period may be filled using this list. If there is a tie on the eligibility list, the employee with the most seniority will be placed in the higher position on the list.
