Department (OPH) Office of Public HealthJob Description: Responsibilities The Database Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day monitoring, maintenance and optimization of the Vital Records cloud-based data warehouse. The incumbent will ensure the availability, security and accuracy of the sensitive vital records data. The incumbent will configure warehouses and databases to meet specific project or Bureau requirements and ensure optimal configuration settings for performance and cost-efficiency. The incumbent will also analyze and monitor the data warehouse environment and execute performance tuning strategies to optimize query execution and resource utilization. The incumbent will contribute to implementing and handling security measures, including encryption, access controls using network policies to protect sensitive information. The incumbent will be responsible for activities related to data storage, including data loading, transformation and extraction processes. The incumbent will document database schemas, configurations and procedures. The incumbent will also manage user accounts, roles and access privileges to ensure secure and appropriate access to the database. Lastly, the incumbent will collaborate with software engineers, analysts and IT team to support data-related activities. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of database management experience or closely related experience; OR an Associate's degree in a related field and five years of such experience; OR seven years of such experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of such experience. Preferred Qualifications Strong understanding of Snowflake's architecture, including four years' experience with virtual warehouses, databases, roles, and security features. Four years' experience in SQL and Python for querying and managing databases. Skills in query performance tuning and resource optimization in a cloud environment. Knowledge of best practices in data security within cloud environments. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve database issues efficiently. Conditions of Employment Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Travel up to 10% of the time will be required. The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire.
