 Assistant
 Professor Position in Special Education Teacher Preparation and Inclusive Practices (Dual License
 Program)
 Starting in August 2026
 
 The University of NewMexico, College of Education and Human Sciences, Department of Special
 Education, invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position
 in the undergraduate Dual License program with expertise in the area of special
 education teacher preparation and inclusive practices. This UNM faculty member
 will extend the teaching, research, and service mission of the Special
 Education Department.
 Responsibilities The
 successful candidate will be expected to (a) supervise students in field
 placements, (b) teach courses specific to the preparation of special educators
 to serve the diverse needs of students with disabilities, and (c) conduct
 scholarly work relevant to the preparation of pre- and in-service educators to
 work with preK-12 students with disabilities in inclusive settings. The faculty
 member will collaborate with colleagues in the Special Education Department and
 assist with the coordination of the Dual License program. This will include
 involvement in the recruitment and evaluation of potential cooperating teachers
 and collaborative decision making regarding the placement of teacher
 candidates, updating program participants' progress, and ongoing collaboration
 with our program partners in conjunction with the Special Education Department
 faculty. We are especially interested in a candidate who can
 contribute to the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico through their
 teaching, research, and service. Successful candidates must be committed to
 working in the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico.

 Qualifications
 Minimum Qualifications: 
 Terminal degree in Special Education or a closely related field by August 14, 2026.Minimum three years' experience teaching students with a wide range of special education needs.
 Preferred Qualifications:  
 Robust and current formal academic preparation in the education of pre- and in-service educators to work with preK-12 students with disabilities in inclusive settings.Thorough formal preparation and current involvement in research activities, such that the successful candidate will be able to establish an agenda of active research relevant to the preparation of pre- and in-service educators to work with preK-12 students with disabilities in inclusive settings.Extensive preK-12 teaching experience working with students with a wide range of special education needs in inclusive settings.Excellence or potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate licensure courses.Potential for excellence in supervision of teacher candidates.Evidence of successful collaborations across multiple communities.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
