Purpose of the Role

The Mechanical Pre-Commissioning / Commissioning Lead is responsible for planning, implementing, and directing pre-commissioning testing and start-up engineering procedures for large, complex projects. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the safe, efficient, and sustainable delivery of projects by providing technical leadership, oversight, and coordination throughout the mechanical pre-commissioning and commissioning phases.

As a key member of the project team, this individual will serve as a trusted advisor and technical expert, guiding cross-functional teams to deliver projects that support Worley's mission of bridging the transition to sustainable energy sources while maintaining operational reliability in today's energy, chemicals, and resources industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, organization, and execution of mechanical pre-commissioning and commissioning activities to ensure successful start-up of facilities and equipment.
  • Provide expert guidance on millwright practices and rotating equipment systems, ensuring alignment with engineering specifications, safety standards, and project objectives.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to identify and resolve technical challenges, drive continuous improvement, and ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive pre-commissioning and commissioning plans, schedules, and resource allocation strategies to meet project timelines and objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise commissioning teams, fostering a culture of safety, technical excellence, and accountability.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for commissioning processes, providing consultation and technical insight to project stakeholders and senior management.
  • Promote sustainable solutions and practices in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, supporting Worley's commitment to delivering sustainable change.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations, while maintaining a focus on minimizing risk and enhancing operational reliability.
  • Communicate complex technical information effectively to internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders to drive informed decision-making.
  • Provide strategic input and recommendations for optimizing systems, processes, and tools related to commissioning operations.

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent trade qualification with additional relevant training and experience.
  • Extensive experience in mechanical pre-commissioning and commissioning, with deep knowledge of millwright practices and rotating equipment systems.
  • Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced understanding of commissioning processes, tools, and systems, with the ability to troubleshoot and develop innovative solutions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in planning and executing commissioning activities from early project phases through to operational handover.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities, with the ability to assess technical, environmental, and project impacts independently.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams and effectively influence stakeholders.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and sustainable practices in all phases of project execution.
  • Experience with digital tools and data-driven processes to improve commissioning efficiency and accuracy.
  • A forward-thinking mindset, with a passion for driving sustainable transformation and supporting Worley's ambition to lead in sustainability solutions globally.
