Basic Function
HF Sinclair, Artesia PTU (Pre-Treament Unit) is seeking a motivated Shift Supervisor to oversee the process and employees to ensure safe and reliable operations of the PTU while working in close contact with RDU operations.
Job Duties
  • Fosters a team approach to operation and reliability of the PTU
  • Acts promptly to ensure product quality targets are met and adjusts operating targets or plans to meet changing business conditions on a 24/7 basis
  • Prioritizes and directs shift activities to complete operating objectives
  • Interacts with other departments to maintain a steady flow of products in and out of the units / facility as well as to address and resolve process performance and/or maintenance issues
  • Participates in the development, review, and implementation of guidelines, policies, procedures, standards, and regulations and administers work rules consistently
  • Considers potential consequences for outside employees / contractors when assigning field tasks and avoids unnecessary exposure to workplace hazards
  • Interprets lab reports and makes process adjustments to address off-spec results
  • Ensures performance of routine environmental compliance activities, addresses/reports deficiencies, and responds immediately to leaks, loss of containment, or potential loss of containment
  • Conducts unit walk-throughs to verify shift consistency, work process compliance, unit status, equipment condition, etc.
  • Identifies and facilitates unit optimization activities to meet business objectives
  • Provides oversight, assistance, and coaching to employees / contractors on troubleshooting issues and techniques for unit equipment and utility systems
  • Supports or directs emergency response and acts as Incident Commander, when required (during absence of PTU Manager)
  • Prepares crew to respond to abnormal situations (i.e., what ifs, drills, etc.)
  • Provides unit-specific and other technical training using effective delivery techniques to employees / contractors as required
  • May oversee unit qualification progress for operators, acts as a coach / mentor to train and develop team knowledge / skills, and ensures that all team members complete required training
Special assignments, projects or tasks as assigned to the employee by their supervisor from timeto time in their sole and complete discretion of management.
Experience
A minimum of seven years of on-the-job experience and at least five years of industry experience are required.
Education Level
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree, or the equivalent amount of education and work experience, is required.
Required Skills
Computer skills including data acquisition and systems application. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of process operations; interpersonal, conflict resolution, supervisory and leadership skills. Flexible, decisive and innovative. Ability to act decisively under pressure and assume risks. Intermediate reading and writing skills, with the ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations. May require some or all of the following: special training in Industrial Firefighting courses, HAZMAT, Chemical Treatment and certifications in Industrial Strategy & Tactics, working knowledge of OSHA safety rules and regulations.


Preferred Skills: Management Skills for Supervisors and special training and/or certifications in computer software is preferred.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
Responsible for the supervision of employees and/or management of 3rd-party contractors.
Work Conditions
Office and field based with up to 25% travel by land and air required. Refinery facility, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors environment, driver based environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, working in confined spaces, exposure to the risk of electrical shock, loud noises, and vibrations. Subject to all temperatures, weather and varying road conditions. In some locations, must be available for weekend and after hour call-outs

Physical Requirements
Job conditions require lifting and/or carrying up to 50lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 50lbs, standing, walking, sitting, talking or hearing, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movement, reaching or grasping, climbing up to 100 ft, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates, valid State drivers license and proof of insurance, and ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted), and strenuous physical activity. Job conditions may require perceiving color differences.
