This is an inpatient position within Saint Francis/St Mary's hospitals Rehabilitation Services
department.

The Entry Level Physical Therapist (Physical Therapist 1) reports to the Clinical Supervisor and provides
both direct and indirect patient care services. The Entry Level Physical Therapist works primarily with adult
and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. The Entry Level Physical
Therapist with specific pediatric competencies and clinical experience may also work with infants, children
and/or adolescents.

Under general direction and upon receipt of licensed approved provider written referrals, the Entry Level
Physical Therapist plans and administers a full range of physical therapy services for patients with a variety
of physical and cognitive impairments and disabilities. Services include patient evaluations using physical
therapy tests and measurements, the establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and the development of
therapeutic intervention programs, and the implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing physical
therapy interventions, modalities, and procedures. The Entry Level Physical Therapist demonstrates
practice competence managing patients in less acute care settings and/or patients with more straightforward
clinical presentations and may require mentoring or supervision when working in high acuity care settings (eg
ICU) and/or with patients with more complex clinical presentations.

The Entry Level Physical Therapist maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient
care services. While performing job duties, the Entry Level Physical Therapist may also supervise support
personnel including Physical Therapist Assistants and Rehabilitation Aides. The Entry Level Physical
Therapist seeks out opportunities for ongoing clinical education and professional development. As a member
of the clinical care team, the Entry Level Physical Therapist also participates in compliance, quality, safety,
and process improvement initiatives in the department, local care setting, and organization.

Upon referral provides professional Physical Therapy services including evaluations, planning individual patient care programs, and treatments. Demonstrates/uses current knowledge of principles and practices of Physical Therapy. Participates in job related departmental functions as an integral member of the patient care team.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications


  • Masters and/or Baccalaureate degree from a school of Physical Therapy, accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Passing score on National Examination for PT. Board certified and licensed in CA.
  • Board certified and licensed in CA. PHYSICAL THERAPST LIC APPLICNT (LIC PTLA);PHYSICAL THERAPIST (LIC PT);BASIC LIFE SUPPORT-AHA (CT CPRBLS).
  • New graduate without experience acceptable, unless a specific number of years required due to the needs of the department at the time of the appointment.

  • Possession of a California Physical Therapy License by the California State Board of Examiners.
