Overview

SCCI is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our team! The Senior Systems Engineer is a key member of the Information Technology team, responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of enterprise IT systems and infrastructure. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments. The Senior Systems Engineer ensures system performance, security, and scalability to meet organizational needs. They will work closely with the Director of IT, cybersecurity engineer, help desk and other IT personnel to ensure users have reliable, secure, functional systems that meet their operational requirements. This position is on-site and and located in Dahlgren, VA.

Responsibilities:



  • System Architecture & Design:

    • Design and implement complex IT infrastructure solutions including workstations, servers, storage, virtualization, and cloud platforms.
    • Evaluate and recommend technologies to meet business needs


  • Maintenance & Support:

    • Manage and maintain Windows/Linux servers, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and other core systems
    • Design and deploy system baselines that meet relevant security standards and guidelines
    • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot hardware/software issues
    • Ensure high availability and disaster recovery capabilities


  • Cloud & Virtualization:

    • Deploy and manage cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, Azure)
    • Manage virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)


  • Security & Compliance:

    • Implement and enforce security best practices across systems
    • Assist in audits and ensure systems comply with industry regulations and standards (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR)


  • Project Management & Collaboration:

    • Lead or participate in IT infrastructure projects, including upgrades and migrations
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide technical leadership
    • Document system configurations, procedures, and policies
    • Take ownership of initiatives and see them through completion


  • Mentoring & Leadership:

    • Mentor junior engineers and serve as an escalation point for complex technical issues
    • Participate in strategic planning for IT infrastructure improvements





Essential Skills and Experience:




  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and have an active Secret Security Clearance
  • Bachelor's (BS) degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Ten (10)+ years of experience in systems engineering or infrastructure roles
  • Expertise in configurating and managing enterprise systems (Windows Server, Windows11, Linux, cloud platforms)
  • Expertise in Windows domain administration (AD, Azure-AD, OUs, AD groups)
  • Expertise in virtualized environments (VMWare, ESXi, Hyper-V) and deployment of virtual desktops, remote desktop, thin clients and cloud deployments
  • Familiarity with O365 and GCC High deployments
  • Expertise in application deployment and patching tools
  • Familiar with DoD or USG security practices and regulations (patching, STIGs, system hardening and security baselines)
  • Expertise in backups, restoration, snapshots and image rollback (Synology, Rubrik, vSphere) and experience managing large data sets
  • Strong understanding of networking, firewalls, and storage systems
  • Experience working with 3rd party vendors to procure and manage IT assets
  • Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure)
  • Strong documentation and communication skills, with ability to write clear and concise engineering guidance, procedures and documentation
  • Familiar with help desk tools and processes, network and system security principles and corporate IT processes
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS and Azure) and their security services
  • Knowledge of modern threat landscapes, vulnerabilities, mitigation techniques, and security tools and processes
  • Ability to lead teams and manage projects to achieve security goals and objectives



Preferred Skills and Experience:




  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, VMware VCP, RHCE)
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and containerization technologies (Docker)
  • Exposure to monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Prometheus, Grafana)
