If so, we 're looking for someone like you to join our team in ZSG!

We are seeking a Section Supervisor for the Classified Material Control (CMC) Section to help us supervise, train, develop, and mentor the members of the team. The section supervisor will manage the Laboratory's collateral document control activities to include acting as the Top Secret Control Officer, NATO Officer, CNWDI Officer.

As the Section Supervisor for CMC, you will:

  • Primarily provide oversight and management of the CMC team and satellite CMC stations to include classified document/media receipt and dispatch classified document/media storage and transmission reproduction disposition and retention and classified document/media destruction.
  • Organize and ensure execution of all document control functions. Manage all special category classified information to include Restricted Data (RD), Formerly Restricted Data (FRD), Critical Nuclear Weapons Design Information (CNWDI), Foreign Government Information (FGI) and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
  • Serve as the content lead for all document control questions and ensure that document control processes are documented and clearly communicated to customers.
  • Maintain accountability for the quality of work performed by the members of the Section.
  • Provide expertise and guidance and lead Section staff members in providing creative and flexible services and solutions to enable the success of its customers while also ensuring adherence to relevant regulations.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain staff meeting Section needs for a highly capable and high performing staff. Draft requisitions, screen resumes, interview staff, and make hiring recommendations. Manage the performance management process for the Section to include setting objectives and goals, providing continuous and timely feedback, writing and conducting performance reviews, and counseling staff on performance concerns, as necessary. Ensure that staff understand and adhere to Group, Department, and Lab-wide expectations, policies, and procedures.
  • Utilize APL vehicles to transport classified documents for destruction, as well as perform courier services of classified documents.
  • Develop staff capabilities suitable to the mission and work of the Section and its customers. Mentor staff members and promote professional growth. Seek out opportunities for staff development by identifying potential new roles and supporting training and education activities.
  • Act as the Top Secret Control and NATO Officer for CMC and the satellite CMC stations. Oversight responsibility for the inventory, accountability, control/ safeguarding and destruction of all TS and NATO material, media and equipment. Manage the Defense Courier Service account and the external/internal transmission of TS and NATO documents/media. Liaison with the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) for all matters involving TS and/or NATO.
  • Assist the Facility Security Officer in implementing the 32 CFR Part 117 and other DoD directives and regulations. Serve as a team lead on the SECD In-House Review Team and the SECD Administrative Inquiry Team.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a Bachelors degree and 4 years experience or a high school diploma and 7 years of experience in the Security career field with emphasis in the area of Document Control and Destruction.
  • Prior formal line management experience and proven track record of successfully leading staff.
  • A strong working knowledge of the 32 CFR Part 117, National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM).
  • Proven experience managing a Top Secret inventory.
  • Proficiency with Service Now, SIMS, NISS and the US mail system.
  • Proficiency with basic word processing and other computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service to motivate, lead, and manage staff and to effectively interact and work with all levels of Laboratory staff, sponsors, customers, and representatives of external organizations.
  • Demonstrated prioritization, organization, planning, teamwork, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.
  • Requires valid state-of-residence driver's license in good standing.
  • Hold an active Top Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
