Position Summary

Reporting directly to the General Counsel and Secretary ("GC"), the Segment General Counsel is a senior member of the Legal, Ethics & Compliance, Corporate Affairs, and Sustainability ("LCAS") team and a legal business and strategic partner to the segment team. This position will serve as the chief segment counsel providing advice and guidance to management on the legal matters impacting the business. The successful candidate will be a "roll-up your sleeves" leader who is a team player, is comfortable driving change, values accountability, is adept at creating business-friendly and value-added legal solutions, and is looking to make a tremendous impact. They also have strong personal drive, energy, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with high expectations for responsiveness. This is an opportunity to join a new GC to shape the LCAS function for the future.

Job Description

* Be a trusted advisor and strategic legal partner to the Segment President and the segment business and functional teams on U.S., multi-jurisdictional and global legal, regulatory, and policy related matters
* Oversee and drive the strategy for the legal team's support of the business - its global strategies, financial goals, and product and process innovations - including working with outside counsel and internal teams and managing costs to ensure effective use of resources
* Provide legal support and guidance with respect to commercial and supplier business negotiations and disputes, intellectual-property, and information-technology matters (including data privacy, cyber security, and artificial intelligence)
* Draft, review, analyze, and negotiate a wide range of business agreements, including sales, purchasing, distribution, equipment leasing, licensing, joint development, and commercial services
* Provide advice and legal support related to compliance with the full breadth of global, federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the business
* Develop, build, and implement scalable global legal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with laws and regulations within the U.S. and all countries in which the company does business
* Proactively identifying legal risks and develop mitigation strategies to protect the interests of the company; keep the company's senior management abreast of significant legal decisions, legislation, and regulatory rulings that may affect the company's business or policies
* Develop a thorough understanding of and familiarity with the company's business - its markets, technology, products, services, facilities, customers, suppliers, and competitors - in order to identify trends and formulate appropriate legal structures and strategies

Qualifications

* Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; and actively licensed and in good standing to practice law in at least one U.S. state.
* 15+ years of progressive legal experience with a focus on global business support and commercial practice, gained through a combination of law firm and in-house roles.
* Experience as a senior member of the Legal leadership team of a U.S. public company with global operations is required; and experience in packaging, manufacturing, or consumer products is strongly preferred.
* Experience serving as a trusted partner and advisor to business leaders and functional teams is required; experience directly supporting senior and c-suite leadership is preferred.
* Experience developing and conducting business relevant regulatory training programs and initiatives; with policy creation and deployment; and managing business dispute resolution.
* Experience with claims and litigation; intellectual property; health and safety; environmental matters; ethics and compliance programs; and/or mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures is a plus.
