Job Description

Position: Operations Supervisor

Primary Location: East St.Louis. IL

Schedule: Full time - Monday to Friday - 40 hours work week.

Reports to: Plant Manager

Compensation: $80,000 - $90,459.83 per annum

The US base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,459 per annum + bonus + benefits. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific salary ranges for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process. Please note that the compensation details reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, benefits, pension contributions and/or additional incentives.

About this Role and About You

Direct day to day supervision operations personnel. Troubleshoot and resolve equipment and operating problems. Review operating data daily. Monitor raw material utilization and production yields to ensure most efficient utilization of materials and optimization of quality products. Monitor and ensure environmental compliance for all areas of operation; air, water, and solid. Support and participate in Responsible Care programs to maintain safe working conditions for employees and the environment. Prepare, update and review operation procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation of the facility. Coordinate operations and maintenance activities to meet department goals involving budgets, production schedules and raw materials consumption.

Qualifications

Knowledge

    Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred. Other relevant experience will be considered

  • 5+ years' experience in a related management position preferred.

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in chemical plant operations and maintenance required.

  • Advanced proficiency in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel etc)

Responsibilities

Monitor and direct production. - 50%

To know, understand, and ensure the unit is operated within its limits and according to the regulatory permits.

Provide technical training and assistance to operational and plant personnel process knowledge.

Track production and unit consumption rates.

Control operation cost.

Review operating data daily and report and

Investigate deviations from set operating parameters and initiate corrective actions.

Identify and initiate process/production improvements and modifications.

Work Orders are entered correctly and approved.

Assist Operations Manager in improving effectiveness and efficiency of plant Operations.

Provide vacation relief for Operations Manager.

Trouble-shoot and resolve equipment and operating problems in the unit. Monitor environmental emissions and wastewater discharge. 10%

Train and ensure operations personnel are trained to perform their duties safely.

Support and participate in all training initiatives as required. 10%

Ensure all operations personnel know and receive their regulatory, safety, and environmental training.

Update and develop operation procedures, process modifications and equipment changes to improve plant operations. 5%

Assist in PHA reviews, Regulatory, Environmental, Safety, and ISO audits, and ensure that action items resulting from these audits and safety incidents are completed. 5%

Attend and conduct safety meetings and area inspections of the plant. To ensure that action items resulting from these meetings are completed. 5%

Assist Maintenance and Engineers with C.A.R. work and design and evaluate unit operations for process improvements. 5%

Perform other duties as assigned 5%

Oversee the receiving and unloading of products and raw materials. Ensure all regulated materials and wastes are shipped out of plant within permitted time. 5%

Environmental, Health & Safety Responsibilities

Roles and Responsibilities of All Employees:

  • Become familiar with Chemtrade Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) policies and procedures.
  • Immediately report all ES&H incidents (injuries, near misses, releases).
  • Complete all required ES&H training in a timely fashion.
  • Follow all Chemtrade facility and corporate ES&H procedures and practices.
  • Attend and actively participate in facility ES&H meetings and forums that will drive employee involvement.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for ES&H program improvement.
  • Participate in job safety analysis activities.

Roles and Responsibilities of Supervisors:

  • Gain a thorough working knowledge of Chemtrade Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the ES&H representative to plant personnel through communication and enforcement of ES&H policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership through participation in ES&H initiatives and programs.
  • Actively drive the recognition and rewarding of positive ES&H performance by plant personnel.
  • Ensure that ES&H action items are effectively accomplished and tracked to closure.
  • Participate in ES&H meetings and training forums.
  • Respond to ES&H incidents through prompt and thorough reporting, incident investigation, root cause identification and action item implementation.
  • Develop and communicate job safety analyses for plant processes.
  • Conduct timely and thorough inspections of plant activities and areas and provide timely response to ensure that deficiencies are addressed.
  • Assist in tracking and communication of ES&H performance metrics
  • Provide input to improve ES&H performance compared to metrics.

  • Employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employee is occasionally required to climb stairs/ladders (including vertical)
  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision.
  • Must be physically capable of spending long hours sitting in an office environment.
  • Must be "fit for duty".

Work Environment

Must be able to perform under the following conditions

  • Work in awkward or confining workspaces.
  • Work in elevated places.
  • Work in outdoor environment.
  • Work in noisy environment.
  • Work in areas that are dusty and have some odor from chemicals and etc.
  • Safety is a job requirement.
  • Able to work in Adverse Weather Conditions.
