About the role/team:

The Director of the Business Investment Group will directly influence WEX's overall investment strategy, ensuring the company's resources are deployed in high-impact initiatives that drive sustainable growth.

This role works at the highest levels of the organization, partnering with C-suite executives, including the CFO and SVP, FP&A to guide decisions and prioritize investments that align with the company's long-term objectives, balancing risk and return, while fostering innovation in technology, product development, and market expansion.

Through a data-driven and rigorous approach, the Director will drive business value, by ensuring that every dollar invested delivers measurable value to WEX.

What you'll do:

  • Lead a small team, in partnership with other FP&A teams, Product & Technology, Commercial, ELT Members and the Office of the CEO to

    • Evaluate investment opportunities and business cases, delivering decisive recommendations to senior leadership, including whether WEX should pursue these initiatives

    • Drive the annual capital planning process, instilling structured governance and analytical rigor into our tech & product investment levels and influence decisions regarding prioritization of investments

    • Establish frameworks that prioritize investments based on strategic importance and financial impact

    • Build and oversee the processes for continuous tracking and accountability in the organization, ensuring:

      • realization of revenue from new product investments

      • that corrective actions are taken where necessary

      • clear alignment of Operational Execution Imperatives, with a strong focus on financial performance

      • a thorough understanding of the comparative returns on various sales and marketing investments, in partnership with the line of businesses and FP&A teams.

  • Executive Partnership: Act as a key advisor to the CFO and SVP, FP&A, providing actionable insights through data-driven, objective financial analysis to inform strategic decisions on investment and divestment opportunities.

  • Cross-functional Influence: Establish and promote best practices across the FP&A organization, fostering collaboration and delivering impactful financial insights that shape decision-making across WEX.

  • Thought Leadership & Organizational Influence: Beyond day-to-day operations, act as a thought leader within WEX, championing innovation, driving best practices, and promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

What you'll bring:

  • MBA preferred, BS degree required within a related field

  • 10+ years experience in finance leadership roles

  • Demonstrated experience in complex environments with multiple stakeholders.

  • Experience in evaluating and recommending business decisions based on data.

  • Experience leading a small team and working cross-functionally and collaboratively in a matrix environment.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
