About the Department and/or College

The Department of Environmental Health & Safety seeks to provide a safe and healthy place of employment and learning and to cultivate positive attitudes towards safety, security and preparedness through the establishment and implementation of occupational and environmental protection programs for the University.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Develop, implement, and oversee occupational safety and health programs to promote safe working conditions and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate incident investigations and responses to safety complaints.
  • Serves as the University liaison with outside agencies concerning occupational safety and health issues and during regulatory inspections as needed.
  • Provides occupational safety and health consultation, guidance, and training to University students, faculty, and staff.
  • Develop metrics to track the effectiveness of safety programs and develop strategies to improve program performance.
  • Conduct indoor air quality assessments and perform duties as a licensed Mold Assessment Consultant licensed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation in support of mold assessment and remediation activities for the University.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations and best practices.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Knowledge and experience in developing and implementing occupational safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations and concepts.
  • Ability to read, understand, and decipher technical information in determining applicability to site processes.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required plus four years supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Certified Safety Professional, Certified Safety and Health Manager, or Certified Industrial Hygienist. OSHA 30 Hour certification.

Pay Statement
