DESCRIPTION

Under close supervision of the Principal EEG technologist or higher, the Hospital Lab Technician 1 consists of and plays the role of the Neurodiagnostic Assistant (NOA) in order to promote and maintain a safe patient environment and best practices, establishing that the patient not be left unattended. Continuously monitors patients undergoing continuous EEG recording for safety, either in room or via remote video monitoring. Alerts nursing and/or EEG Technologist when clinical seizures or other paroxysmal events occur. Report changes to EEG Technologist and/or physician for urgent and/or non-urgent intervention; these actions have direct and immediate impact to patient outcomes.

The Neurodiagnostic Assistant (NOA) is not qualified to analyze EEG data unless the R.EEG T credential has been attained. The Neurodiagnostic Assistant will meet competency and supervision requirements as defined by the EEG Lab. which included successful completion of LTM 100 Introduction to LTM for EMU (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) Personnel. And no less than 20 hours of observation in an EMU Lab, or Neurodiagnostic, under the direction of a credentialed Neurodiagnostic Technologist (R. EEG T., or CLTM). This position is exclusive of the operating room.

Under close supervision of the Senior EMG Technologist or higher, this entry-level position involves performing a range of studies related to electromyography and nerve conduction studies. The role requires ensuring accuracy and reliability in test results while adhering to standard operating procedures and safety guidelines. Responsibilities include taking medical histories related to neurological diagnosis, preparing and positioning patients for EMG/NCS studies, applying suitable electrodes to predetermined measured positions on patients and checking their performance, calibrating and adjusting apparatus, replacing faulty components as needed, selecting and determining electrode combinations to define focal abnormalities during examinations, interpreting graphic output during tests and modifying tests as needed, observing patients during tests, and noting all artifacts or abnormal clinical manifestations observed during the test.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART w/in 6 months of hire date.

  • 0-24 months of recent experience in a healthcare setting with direct patient care.

  • Successful completion of ASET online course, LTM 100, Titled Introduction to Long Term Monitoring (LTM) for Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) personnel OR (EEG) NCS 201, Titled Introduction to Nerve Conduction Studies and NCS Terminology after hire within one (1) month.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and brain anatomy.

  • Interpersonal communication skills to interact with tact and diplomacy with hospital and clinic patients, physicians, and staff at all levels.

  • Problem-solving skills to independently define a problem; identify the resources available to help solve problems.

  • PC proficiency using multiple computer applications, including EPIC / EMR experience.

  • Filing skills to maintain logs and files of information in alphabetical, chronological, and/or numerical order, such that it is current and easily retrievable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Enrolled in an accredited EEG school/program.
  • Recent work experience in Neurodiagnostic (EEG/EMU), Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, or Neurology. Trained in-house for a minimum of 20 hours in an EEG Lab.
  • Prior hospital laboratory technologist or neurodiagnostic assistant. Recent experience working in EEG lab.
  • 2 years of experience in direct patient care, preferably in Neurology, Orthopedics, or PT/OT.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $63,893 - $79,386 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.60 - $38.02

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
