The Department of Medical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time position within the Medical Oncology service at UW Veterinary Care. This position is available at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the clinical track or tenure track, tailored to the individual candidate's qualifications and interests. Tenure track faculty at the University of Wisconsin are expected to participate in clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students, interns, and residents; participate in continuing education programs; and conduct basic science or clinical research that advances the discipline. The new hire will join a collaborative medical oncology team currently composed of three faculty (1 clinical track, 2 tenure track). In addition to faculty, the medical oncology team includes 6 residents, 4 certified veterinary technicians, 1 veterinary assistant, and 1 client care liaison. Besides the medical oncology service, we are proudly integrated with radiation oncology (3 clinical track faculty, 4 residents, 3 CVTs) and surgical oncology (1 clinical track faculty, 1 CVT). We also have a very active clinical trial service that operates under the umbrella of the medical oncology service with one dedicated clinical trials intern and one dedicated CVT. Clinical service responsibilities in UW Veterinary Care (UWVC) include providing high-quality patient care and hands-on training for veterinary students, interns, and residents. Strong communication skills and a commitment to consulting with referring veterinarians and clients are essential. Oncology manages approximately 4,000 cases annually out of the 27,400 small animal patients seen each year at UWVC. Extensive opportunities for collaboration across the larger University of Wisconsin-Madison campus exist. The School of Veterinary Medicine is conveniently located on the west-side of the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, close to the School of Medicine and Public Health and UW Health campus, including the Carbone Cancer Center, an NCI designated comprehensive cancer center. Having two job postings allows the School to consider candidates with both tenure-track faculty credentials and non-tenure-track faculty credentials for this position. Key Job Responsibilities: Department:The School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) is a collegial, collaborative environment that offers specialty care with board-certified experts in allied services including anesthesia and pain management, cardiology, dentistry and oral surgery, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, anatomic and clinical pathology, primary care, special species, and soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. Additionally, the hospital has a dedicated Licensed Clinical Social Worker who meets with clients and offers support groups. In 2024, UWVC opened a new state-of-the-art hospital. Medical oncology is now housed in a large, brand new suite with a dedicated entrance and reception area, 6 exam rooms, two chemotherapy suites, large clinical workspace, and oncology patient kennel space. The radiation oncology working area is adjacent to the medical oncology service with an Accuray Radixact linear accelerator. Surgical oncology receives patients within the medical oncology space.
