Duke Children's Hospital - PCICU Stepdown / Pediatric Cardiology Service

Duke Children's Hospital is a 202 bed children's hospital located in Durham, North Carolina.

The Pediatric Cardiac Stepdown Unit is a currently 17-bed unit staffed by pediatric residents, cardiology fellows, critical care nurse practitioners and cardiology faculty. Depending on volume of patients on the cardiology team (Davison), some cardiac patients may be on other general care units (1A, 1B, 2A, 4A or 4B) or rarely on adult care units. (age > 14 and weight > 40 kg)

We are looking for a BC/BE pediatrician to staff pediatric cardiac patients on our intermediate and stepdown care units as a first call provider.

Job Summary

Cover patients in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Stepdown Unit as first call provider.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

The Pediatric Critical Care Provider will engage in direct patient care activities to include, but are not be limited to the following:



  • Pre-Rounding
  • Rounding with Davison Service fellow and attending

    • Day-to-day patient contact/rounding/care management actively encourages and includes professional input from all members of the patient care team


  • Assessment, evaluation, diagnostic determination, on-going treatment and clinical management of pediatric cardiology patients
  • When indicated make referral for consultation
  • Order medications and therapeutic treatments when warranted
  • When appropriate, make determination of readiness and planning for discharge for inpatients in your care.
  • Direct contact and consultation with patient family members, friends, advocates, and others to ensure effective communication of patient status and care plans
  • Completes all clinical and professional records and documentation accurately and in a timely manner to assure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements.
  • Respond to codes/RRTs on heart center patients
  • Work to create a positive work culture within cross-departmental teams
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.


Job Eligibility Requirements

Education



  • MD or DO graduate from an accredited medical school program and completion of a Pediatric or Medical Pediatric Residency



Licensure



  • Current and unrestricted medical license issued by NCMB.
  • Federal and State DEA with unrestricted prescriptive authority



Certification



  • American Board of Pediatrics (board certified or board eligible recent graduates may also apply)
  • PALs certification required



Experience



  • None required



Other



  • Familiarity with EPIC



Job Hours



  • 12 hour shifts, day, night or weekend
