We are currently seeking intern/co-op candidates to learn with us as they engage in a variety of hands-on projects alongside our high-performing and authentic R&D team.

Position Summary

The Human Factors Engineering Co-op role is aimed at developing the skills of engineers and researchers in the field of human factors and usability engineering related to medical device development. The goal of the program is to provide a structure where participants are introduced to the equipment, methods, and concepts of human centered design to improve workflow, reduce use errors, and positively influence device adoption and clinical outcomes.

The student will report directly to the Systems & Test Engineering Manager and work with the Research Engineering Team on characterization methods, basic technology research, prototype development, and group brainstorming/problem-solving sessions related to medical devices used by interventional cardiologists and radiologists.

Projects may utilize skills such as operating state-of-the-art test equipment, researching scientific and clinical literature, executing tests, preparing reports, designing, and prototyping medical devices.

Interns will develop knowledge and experience in the following:

  • Performing workflow, task and use error analysis
  • Defining User Groups and Use Environments
  • Considering all aspects of User Experience (Ux) in Device design (Hardware, GUI, Labeling)
  • Developing and executing Formative and Summative testing plans and protocols
  • Influencing device design with feedback from user testing
  • Human Factors and Usability standards
  • UI wireframe design and application
  • Medical Device design and development including design inputs, User Needs Validation, quality documentation
  • System Engineering Concepts
  • Requirement Management Tools

Responsibilities:

  • Support principal engineer on active jobs
  • Complete assigned research projects
  • Curation of Usability requirements and Use cases
  • Test fixture fabrication
  • Test execution and data collection
  • Reporting; technical reports, manuscripts, abstracts, posters

Training to be Provided

Students will be exposed to working with various operations and product support departments within Bracco Medical Technologies (BMT). They will learn key requirements that need to be followed in a regulated environment such as the medical device industry. Training may cover relevant aspects of medical device development procedures, along with more specific aspects related to BMT products.

Additionally, our interns and co-ops benefit from a buddy program, career development programming, and opportunities to build their professional networks virtually and in-person with BMT professionals.

Qualifications:

Minimum

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical, or closely related field (Only candidates with at least 2 years of study toward a bachelor's will be considered)

Preferred

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of principles of engineering and mechanical design
  • Knowledge of principles of data acquisition and study design
  • Lab testing or research experience
  • Ability to establish clear priorities and multi-task in a high-volume setting responsive to externally generated deadlines
  • Knowledge of Cognitive Psychology, Human centered design, Social & Organizational psychology

Term/Hours

  • Term: Spring/Summer/Fall of 2026 start, 2-3 semester rotation, can be consecutive or non-consecutive semesters.
  • Hours:40 hours per week

Compensation & Total Rewards:

Estimated Pay Range: Undergraduate students - $23.00 - $25.00/hour, Graduate students - $27.00/hour

*Estimated Starting Pay Range is reflective of the range Bracco Medical Technologies reasonably expects to pay for the position. The range provided is based on compensation and market data specific to the position.
