TITILE: PROJECT FIELD ENGINEER

LOCATION: NORTHERN VIRGINIA


POSITION SUMMARY :

The Project Field Engineer is an integral member of the construction management team, responsible for supporting and coordinating the technical and administrative activities necessary to ensure the successful completion of a project. PFE works closely with the Project Manager, Superintendent, and Estimating/Purchasing teams along with the Design Engineers, serving as a crucial bridge between design and construction, and overseeing the detailed execution of engineering tasks on-site. The PFE plays a pivotal role in ensuring that engineering and administrative processes are rigorously maintained throughout the project lifecycle. By implementing standardized procedures, maintaining precise records, and facilitating smooth coordination between stakeholders, the PFE contributes directly to the quality, efficiency, and success of construction operations. Their involvement in schedule development, financial evaluations, and technical reviews helps drive project delivery within established timelines and budget constraints.

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, estimation, and purchasing teams to develop comprehensive and accurate bid packages tailored to project-specific needs.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, anticipate project challenges, and integrate feedback from multiple stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in establishing and maintaining baseline construction schedules, including planning milestones, critical path activities, subcontractor involvement, and essential deadlines.
  • Demonstrated skills in collaborative scheduling and coordination to prevent project delays and ensure seamless on-site operations.
  • Experience developing strategic site utilization programs, optimizing the layout for materials, equipment, safety zones, temporary facilities, and overall site efficiency and safety.
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and enforce detailed procedures for the submittal, review, coordination, approval, and distribution of shop drawings and samples, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
  • Expertise in maintaining organized and up-to-date engineering files, including subcontractor records, bid packages, plans, specifications, change orders, clarifications, and as-built documentation.
  • Experience reviewing vendor estimates, proposals, preparing company estimates for changes or additional work, managing scope, pricing, scheduling, and risk considerations.
  • Ability to evaluate subcontractor payment requests through thorough site inspections and progress verification, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and effective budget control.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with internal and external project stakeholders, including design professionals, vendors, subcontractors, and project owners.

  • Exceptional organizational skills for maintaining detailed project records, documentation, and engineering files.
  • Strong communication abilities, both written and verbal, for coordinating with vendors, subcontractors, and owners.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Analytical skills for evaluating schedules of values, payment requisitions, and contract compliance.
  • Experience with construction management software and project scheduling tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Understanding of construction safety practices and site logistics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be a US Citizen



Education/Experience:


  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, is highly desirable. Strong theoretical and practical foundations in engineering principles are necessary to ensure successful project outcomes.



Certificates and Licenses:


  • An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred. This credential demonstrates a commitment to professional growth and readiness to pursue Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the future.

Pay Range: $72,671 - $108,954 per year
