Job Overview

Responsible for managing and directing the day-to-day activities of Clinical Pharmacy Staff. Serves as a clinical resource for the provision of pharmaceutical care and clinical pharmacy services by building effective relationships with staff and departments within the hospital. Ensures safe, appropriate, and economical use of drugs through the application of specialized skills and knowledge in pediatric patient care. Manages up to fifteen direct reports.

The Supervisor of Clinical Pharmacy Services, Critical Care will work in close collaboration with the Manager of Clinical Pharmacy Services to provide strategic leadership and direction for clinical pharmacy services at the Anschutz campus. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence clinical practice, support a high-performing team, and contribute to the advancement of pharmacy services within a leading academic medical center.

Key responsibilities of this role will include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing medication safety and optimizing therapeutic outcomes
  • Supervising and mentoring a growing team of clinical pharmacists, with a focus on professional development and performance excellence
  • Contributing to formulary management, policy development, and clinical decision-making processes

Sharing in staffing responsibilities and providing leadership coverage to support continuity of care

Additional Information
Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits
Shift: Variable, with weekend and evening rotation; selected holidays.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participates in leadership activities for department, contributing to the achievement of goals and objectives. Defines and maintains internal processes for clinical pharmacy services; supports customer service standards and handles escalations. Serves as a champion of organization culture, influencing culture change to support pharmacy objectives.
  • Facilitates the development, maintenance, and implementation of hospital and department policy and procedures related to regulatory requirements for medication use, preparation, storage, restrictions, and administration. Provides oversight for medication management including evaluation of drug utilization, non-formulary medication approval, drug shortage management, and medication safety review.
  • Supervises day to day activities of clinical pharmacy staff. Assigns and reviews work, provides work instruction (on-the-job or formal training) and develops team members. Evaluates performance of team members, providing continuous feedback. Manages discipline and performance issues, hires, and fires team members. Identifies resource needs and develops recommendations for meeting needs.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with staff, peers, and senior leadership. Serves as a liaison between pharmacy leadership and pharmacy staff.
  • Participates in department and hospital wide committees representing the pharmacy.
  • Provides drug information services by responding to questions regarding medication compatibilities, adverse drug events, regimens, dosing, interactions, storage and disposal, compounding, therapeutic uses of medications and pharmaceutical supplies in a timely manner.
  • Sustains and implements quality and safety initiatives and practices in the department and throughout the hospital. Reports adverse drug events and medication variances using the hospital variance reporting program (QSRS).
  • Sustains clinical pharmacy services throughout the organization by providing pharmaceutical care for pediatric patients of all age ranges through participation in multi-disciplinary team rounds and/or care, emergency response, education, guidance, interpretation and analysis of medication related therapeutic issues; documenting pharmaceutical interventions according to departmental standards; performing therapeutic drug monitoring and disease outcome analysis; and timely verification of medication orders in an electronic health record system.
  • Participate in general pharmacy operations throughout the organization through appropriate medication preparation, dispensing, and inventory control. Provides oversight to pharmacy technicians, interns, residents and students as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: PharmD or RPh
  • Experience: PGY1 Pharmacy Residency plus one (1) year of Pediatric Hospital Pharmacy experience.
  • Certification(s): BLS certification (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Safety and Health Institute accepted)
  • Licensure(s): Licensed pharmacist in the state of Colorado or eligible to sit for licensure.

Salary Information
Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $140,287.01 to $210,430.52
