Milliman's Milwaukee-based Property and Casualty (P&C) practice has assembled one of the leading teams of experts in P&C insurance matters. Our consulting work has informed the creation of a powerful toolkit of analytical solutions spanning markets including mortgage securities, reinsurance, and capital markets. Our flagship product, M-PIRe, is the leading platform for mortgage risk modeling and assessment in its field.

The Role

Milliman M-PIRe is a comprehensive suite of software solutions that efficiently evaluates and manages mortgage opportunities, trends in the market, and portfolio aggregation. The Milwaukee-based team meets weekly in person at our office in Brookfield, WI to keep the team connected and on track to meet sprint goals.

As a full-stack Software Developer, your experience in predictive model integration will serve you well in designing, developing, and maintaining cloud-based web applications, predictive models and algorithms across the entire stack in a secure, cloud-based ecosystem. When the product owner says, "This is what we want to deliver" or "Here's what our client is asking for," you're ready to determine what's feasible, what should happen next, and how to work efficiently.

In this role you'll work closely with other developers, data scientists, model builders, visualization experts, product owners, and client stakeholders. An interest in how these financial models serve M-PIRe's customers will be essential to understand whether results are reasonable, and to make incremental improvements. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about building scalable, data-driven solutions, and can be a key contributor to every phase of the product development process.

What You Will Do



  • Design, develop and maintain scalable cloud-based web applications using C#, .NET Core, SQL and Azure among other technologies.
  • Develop and consume RESTful APIs to enable secure communication between systems and services.
  • Implement data models into web applications.
  • Ensure software quality through unit testing, clean and maintainable code, and participation in code reviews.
  • Monitor application performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement optimizations as necessary.
  • Collaborate with product, data, and cross-functional teams to gather requirements for software solutions.
  • Write technical specifications based on conceptual design and stated business requirements.
  • Participate in software design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions and documentation.
  • Take ownership of assigned modules or projects with minimal supervision.
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code following industry best practices and coding standards
  • Follow Milliman's established company standards and software development best practices.
  • Adhere to all Milliman risk management requirements and protocols.


What We Are Looking For

Professional Qualifications



  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in full stack software development
  • Experience building software that incorporates data, statistical, actuarial, and/or machine learning models
  • Strong experience with C#, .NET Core, Javascript, and SQL including performance improvement
  • Experience with Azure services (e.g., Azure App Service, Azure Functions, Azure SQL)
  • Experience working in Agile environments, CI/CD Pipelines, DevOps, Automated Testing Framework
  • Proficient in building and integrating RESTful API's
  • Solid understanding of database design and data-driven applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail in code and written communication, documentation, etc.
  • Experience independently leading projects
  • Ability to work directly with non-technical staff and client stakeholders to understand and assess needs and feedback
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications



  • Preference given to candidates with a mathematics, applied math, or statistics background i.e. education and/or experience in industries such as mortgage, insurance, or finance
  • Experience with Python

Location

Candidates hired into this role will be required to work in-person in the Milliman office in Brookfield, WI on a weekly basis, and flexible work arrangements will be considered. Relocation assistance is not available.

Compensation

A combination of factors will be considered to determine the compensation for this role, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.
