The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director for Budget and Financial Reporting, the Financial Analyst is responsible for monitoring and reconciling financial activity within departments and programs at Columbia Business School.

Responsibilities

Financial Reconciliation & Reporting Support:




  • Prepares reconciliation reports, ensures timelines, monthly completion, and maintains supporting documentation for reconciliations in an organized manner (electronic/paper, as needed) for the following: credit card accounts (tuition deposits, application fees, other), tuition (all programs), capital accounts, P-card clearing accounts, Costar projects and other reports as assigned.



  • Identify, research, and resolve discrepancies discovered in the monthly reconciliation process. This includes interpreting financial reports, understanding system interactions, and maintaining constructive working relationships with University and CBS coworkers.



  • Ensures that the accounting systems accurately reflect program or departmental activity, including revenue and expenses, accruals, deferrals; reconciliation with internal records, internal systems and university systems, both financial and other.




Tuition & Program Financial Coordination:




  • Reconciles tuition and expenses for EMBA partnership programs. Prepares tuition receivable schedules for EMBA programs. Acts as the liaison with EMBA Global program partners.



  • Reconciles On-Line store accounts; this includes interpreting financial and other reports, understanding system interactions, and maintaining constructive working relationships with CBS employees and outside vendor.




Financial Systems & Data Management:




  • Enters financial information in Columbia University's internal budget system and reconciles data within internal documents.



  • Prepares and processes journal entries in ARC for all departments within the school.



  • Assists the Associate Director in the creation of Chartfields in ARC, maintaining supporting documentation for projects created in an organized manner.



  • Assists the Associate Director to prepare monthly, quarterly and fiscal year end transactions.




Special Projects & Additional Responsibilities:




  • Participates in special projects as directed, such as audit of departmental expenses including specific reviews, such as travel expenses.



  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned, contributing to the smooth operation of the Financial Planning Office.




Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience required. 0-2 years related experience required.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Strong proficiency with computer software necessary.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, accounting and reporting skills required.
  • Must be a self-starter with discretion, confidentiality and diplomacy.
  • Able to work independently with multiple projects and changing priorities.
  • Excellent organization skills a must.
