National Grid's Work Support General Clerk position is an entry level, union-represented role that offers qualified candidates an opportunity to join a challenging, fast-paced environment. Our mission in Work Support is to ensure the day-to-day operations of the Gas Business run smoothly by maintaining accurate and timely records. A General Clerk must be highly organized, have an attention to detail and is responsible to carry out various clerical tasks in a courteous manner for both internal and external customers. Due to the essential nature of the services, we provide our customers, National Grid's Work Support accepted applicants will be assigned to work as needed by the business to support our customer centric objectives.

Job Purpose

Under general supervision, General Clerk will handle fundamental clerical tasks, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Must reside within 2 hours of work location.
  • Copy, Scan, Fax, Research, and File various record types
  • Create and Close/As built Work Orders in Work Management Systems
  • Assist in the creation of Work Order packages.
  • Order office Supplies
  • Process One- Call requests
  • Handle internal and external customer calls.
  • Process Check Requests
  • Process Various Invoices
  • Create / Record incoming and completed work on Microsoft Word, and Excel spreadsheet.
  • Perform other assigned duties in support of Operations
  • Time Entry- including proficient understanding of the various labor contracts and their application.
  • Correction of payroll errors
  • Data entry into various systems
  • Handle and Manage Permit Applications
Key Accountabilities

Must be willing to work assigned shifts - including early morning and late-night shifts, which may include weekends, holidays and/or overtime.

Must be willing to train others when and if needed.

Must remain up to date with all verbal and written communications

Complete other duties and responsibilities to include but not limited to email, mail, Teams, and clerical work.

Act as First Responders- report for work during emergencies. i.e. Natural disasters

Qualifications
  • Must have excellent clerical and administrative skills.
  • Strong interpersonal verbal and written skills
  • Must pass Company supported Clerical Assessment
  • Must have a minimum a High School Diploma or GED; some college preferred.
  • Ability to multitask between multiple system applications.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Pay Rate: $21.44 per hour

Newly hired employees are bound by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement as well as other agreements between the Company and the local union.
