Job Summary:


The Material Coordinator is a subject matter expert in SunOpta's receiving, inventory control, and shipping processes who collaborates with the Warehouse Supervisor to establish, delegate, and complete departmental objectives safely, accurately, and efficiently.


This is a highly visible role with outstanding opportunity to demonstrate leadership ability. In the absence of the Warehouse Supervisor must provide leadership to team members and make business decisions.



Essential Functions of the Job:



  • Conduct training as needed and provide the Warehouse Supervisor with meaningful feedback.
  • Delegate tasks to staff in line with the Warehouse Supervisor's direction.
  • Ensure warehouse facilities meet Food Safety and GMP standards.
  • Champion the safe operation of powered industrial trucks within the facility as well as safe pedestrian practices.
  • Take a lead role in the receiving, cycle counting, and shipping of product while remaining available to staff for guidance.
  • Partner with other site functional leaders to identify and implement improvements in shared areas of accountability.
  • Other duties, as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • None.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • High school diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience in a warehouse environment, preferably in a Receiving and/or Shipping capacity; or equivalent combination of education and inventory experience.
  • A minimum of 2 - 4 years of powered industrial trucks (PIT) experience, to include forklift, plus ability to obtain forklift certification.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient with MS Outlook, Excel, Word, PPT and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Oracle.
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Practices.


Knowledge and Skills:



  • Comprehensive knowledge of Receiving, Cycle Counting, inventory control, and Shipping operations.
  • Solid understanding of Food Safety and GMP standards.
  • Solid understanding of safe PIT operation/practices.
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of personalities and learning-types.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practices is beneficial.
  • Detail oriented and quality driven.
  • Ability to motivate others and lead by example.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions finished in written, oral, diagram, and/or schedule form.
  • Ability to work/participate on cross-functional teams and communication.
  • Forklift license from SunOpta, or ability to obtain one.



Additional Considerations:



  • Location: This position will be based at the SunOpta Plant in Midlothian, TX.
  • Hours: Day shift opening, Monday - Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm.
  • Travel: Minimal between plant warehouse and off-site warehouse.
  • Work Environment: Approximately 95% conducted in manufacturing or warehouse environment; 5% in office environment.
  • Physical Demands: Must have the ability to lift and/ or move 50 lbs. and sit or stand for long periods of time; employee is occasionally required to reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
