Overview

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Electrical Control and Power Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, modeling, and optimization of electric drive and other power & electromechanical systems, focusing on all aspects including its control system and power circuitry. You will work on a variety of technical areas including motors, generators, motor drives, controllers, switchgear, network communication etc. Other focus area includes various levels of data analysis, research and development, supporting the management of a fully dynamic team, support test programs and troubleshooting efforts etc. Majority of work is performed in the MATLAB Simulink environment, so proficiency and comfort in working with MATLAB software is required for this position. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies within a collaborative engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities:
    Perform detailed power system analysis, including fault and system stability studies
  • Work on the design, implementation, and optimization of electric motors and generators
  • Utilize MATLAB and Simulink for data processing, model development, and system simulation
  • Develop and implement machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms
  • Develop and implement power system solutions, including control strategies for efficient system operation.
  • Assist in managing a fully dynamic team including coordinating with other technical leads as well as managing tasking for engineer I and II.
  • Interact regularly with customer for various decisions and presentations
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure compliance with technical specifications and project requirements
  • Changing course and reprioritizing tasks in short notice as needed by the program and flowing information and direction to the team on regular basis


Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering, with specific expertise in control systems.

Preferred

  • Control Systems Design: Knowledge in designing control systems for power systems, including automatic control of electrical equipment.
  • Real Time Emulation: Experience with real time emulation of power system including experience in working with real time hardware such as speedgoat and concurrent.
  • Collaboration Tools: Experience with Microsoft Project, JIRA, Confluence, IBM DOORS
  • Electrical Control and Power Systems Engineering: Strong experience in power system control and analysis.
  • Data Analysis: Strong experience in data management including machine learning and artificial intelligence experience.
  • Electric drive and Motors: In-depth knowledge of the design, operation, and optimization of electric drive and motors.
  • MATLAB and Simulink: Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink for data processing, simulation, and model development.

  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional ability to analyze complex power systems and identify innovative solutions to challenging engineering problems. Ability to assess multiple system variables and propose optimized solutions for fault analysis, stability, and performance issues.
  • Team Collaboration and Communication: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, collaborating with electrical, mechanical, software, and test engineers. Strong interpersonal skills to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders clearly and concisely. A strong sense of extreme ownership is a requirement for this role.
  • Technical Documentation: Expertise in creating and maintaining detailed technical documentation, including system specifications, engineering reports, and design manuals. Ability to translate technical information into clear, comprehensive documents for various audiences, including stakeholders and regulatory bodies. Patience on working with stakeholders and reviewers in support of technical document release.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision and due diligence in performing simulations, conducting analyses, and ensuring all designs meet performance and safety standards. A keen eye for identifying discrepancies, deficiencies and potential risks during the development and testing stages.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance: Familiarity with industry standards and best practices, ensuring all designs, analyses, and systems meet required quality, safety, and regulatory standards. Experience in conducting design reviews and providing recommendations for improvements.
  • Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of MATLAB and Simulink for modeling, simulation, and system analysis.
  • Adaptability and Continuous Learning: Willingness to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in power systems engineering, data management & ML/AI tools, and emerging technologies. Ability to adapt quickly to new tools, systems, and methodologies in a fast-paced, evolving field.
  • Customer-Focused Mindset: Demonstrated ability to understand and respond to customer needs and provide tailored solutions that meet both technical and business objectives. Experience with client interactions, including requirement gathering and feedback integration, is beneficial.
