Our New York City office has an opening for a technical Director of Civil Engineering Design Services. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated licensed engineer to work across diverse disciplines, but with a focus on roadway design projects. With an established reputation in New York City, NV5 has long-standing relationships with City and State transportation agencies; builders and developers. We work across a wide variety of project delivery mechanisms, and with over 100 offices nationwide, we offer exposure to participate on exciting projects in New York and across the country.

NV5's NYC office works with both public and private clients in the transportation, institutional, and energy industries, as well as state and local governments.

NV5 is seeking a senior engineering professional who will be responsible for the technical oversight of New York City's Civil Engineering Design practice. The engineering department includes civil, roadway, bridge design, traffic, water and environmental engineering services. Each group is led by experienced discipline leaders, and the office has a strong backlog and a growing and energetic roster of talented professionals. Services include highways, roadways, bridge, water and sewer facilities and site design work. Duties include overseeing the various discipline leaders and technical oversight of the engineering department.



Responsibilities

The individual in this role will be required to perform quality reviews and to provide technical guidance on roadway design and other projects. The successful candidate should be well-versed in the technical and procurement requirements of New York City agencies such as NYCDDC, NYCDOT and NYCEDC. Solid technical, writing and verbal communication skills are essential.

Engineers at this level are actively involved in project delivery and support business development and staff management.

A summary of responsibilities follows:

    Provide guidance and support to staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Support the management of technical teams in the development of technical deliverables related to infrastructure
  • Effectively represent NV5 with client agencies on administrative and technical issues, supporting Client Managers and Discipline Leads
  • Maintain the quality control processes and procedures, ensuring that rigorous quality standards for work products are maintained and proper documentation related to QC/QC Checks are completed.
  • Support Project Managers/Discipline Leads with Client facing comments and be comfortable presenting and/or helping to craft the messaging to present complex technical solutions to clients and non-technical staff so it's understandable.
  • Participates in development of technical proposals and Business Development.
  • Provide guidance on required staff levels for project / cost estimating for the engineering budgets and input on schedules to ensure project/client requirements are met.
  • Stay abreast of local laws, regulatory changes, engineering bulletins, and client processes to ensure design teams are efficient and the work product incorporates all the alts requirements.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.


Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience
  • An active PE license in the State of NY
  • Familiarity with NYC and NYS Agency standards (such as DDC, DOTs, DEP, and the MTA).
  • Local project experience required
  • Supervising experience, directing tasks and preforming QA/QC is required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required

The pay range for this position in New York City is $160,000.00 to $210,000.00 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
