Video Archivist & Digital Content Assistant (Labor Education Service)

The Labor Education Service (LES) at the University of Minnesota is hiring a part-time Video

Archivist & Digital Content Assistant (10 hours/week). This position offers flexible hours and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work in support of workers and unions. This is a fully remote position. This position is project-based; the estimated time needed to complete the project is 300 hours, or 30 weeks at 10 hours per week.

Description of Duties

  • Organize and maintain a digital video archive with consistent naming and file structure
  • Upload video files to the Labor Education Service website or other platforms
  • Write clear, concise content descriptions and tag each video with appropriate keywords
  • Ensure metadata is thorough and accurately reflects video content
  • Document work progress and maintain detailed records
  • Communicate regularly with LES staff about updates and any technical needs
  • Provide basic training to full-time LES staff on how to upload, edit, and maintain content on digital platforms
  • Digitize physical video content (such as VHS tapes or DVDs) into standard digital formats
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Basic familiarity with video digitization tools and file formats
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Clear writing ability for creating metadata and descriptions
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet weekly deadlines
  • Reliable, high speed Internet connection

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Minnesota labor history, including unions and labor organizations
  • Familiarity with Elevator (digital media library platform)
