The Technology, Data, and Intelligence Team Okta's Technology, Data, & Intelligence organization is on a mission to simplify and secure internal operations through automation, analysis, and scale. Our Productivity Engineering team is responsible for developing internal tooling, infrastructure and services that empower Okta employees to work as effectively as possible. We work across engineering, data science, security, and internal business teams to deliver automation-powered services that integrate across a wide array of SAAS apps and internally developed infrastructure to Okta. A growing focus for our team has been an investment of cycles into AI agentic platforms, workflow orchestration, and data analytic dashboarding. We're looking for engineers who enjoy solving tough problems and building with purpose. The Staff Software Engineer Opportunity Reporting to the Mat Clinton, this role will you'll play a key role in designing and developing platforms and services that support Okta's internal transformation. You'll help build the infrastructure and applications that make intelligent automation and GenAI real for our workforce - all while ensuring performance, security, and reliability at enterprise scale.This is a hands-on IC role for someone who thrives on system design, loves to build, and wants to grow their influence across a fast-moving engineering team. What you'll be doing Design and build production grade internal services that integrate GenAI and automation into core business workflows (e.g., virtual agents, RAG, enterprise search) Work closely with product, engineering, and data science teams to deliver features from prototype to production, with a focus on quality and user experience Contribute to platform architecture decisions, especially around LLM integration, API design, and system observability Write clean, maintainable code in languages like Python or Go, and build services using containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) Deploy cloud infrastructure to GCP & AWS using IAAS like Terraform, OpenTofu, or similar Promote engineering best practices around testing, security, CI/CD, and operational readiness Participate in design reviews, troubleshooting sessions, and peer mentorship to support a strong, collaborative engineering culture What you'll bring to the role 5+ years of software engineering experience, including building and maintaining production services at scale Experience working with distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and API-based integrations Exposure to AI/ML concepts, and interest in applying LLMs, NLP, or automation tools in practical use cases A collaborative mindset, strong communication skills, and desire to work across team boundaries Curiosity and a desire to learn - especially around AI technologies, enterprise platforms, and building responsibly Why Join Okta Okta is on a mission to become the most secure company in the world, while also looking to adopt the most cutting edge technologies in AI, help us achieve both goals to accelerate our mission Build With Purpose: Work on meaningful problems that simplify and secure how Okta operates Grow in a Human-Centered Culture: Join a supportive, humble team that values technical excellence and personal development #LI-BF1 #LI-Onsite Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies.
