Job Summary: Manage and direct branch to ensure smooth operation and adherence to policy and procedures. Supervises and schedules employees responsible for the various aspects of branch operations. Leads team by example in demonstrating exceptional customer service by creating a memorable experience that delivers consistent and value-added services dedicated to developing lasting customer relationships. Plans, organizes, initiates, directs, controls, monitors, and trains staff. Implements projects set forth by management.

Essential Functions:

Customer Service

  • Performs Southside Bank's customer service standards with each customer interaction.
  • Provides enthusiastic, professional, and courteous service to Southside Bank customers and employees.
  • Consistently performs with accuracy and efficiency to build customer confidence and trust.
  • Completes customer thank you calls and follow-ups of problem resolution as directed by management.
  • Performs as a Teller or Relationship Banker as needed in order to better serve customers.
  • Maintains the security and confidentiality of pertinent information and records.
  • Accurately communicates account information to customers.
  • Contributes to the growth of a profitable loan portfolio by originating loan applications for all types of consumer loan types. Proficient in cross selling consumer loans when opening new accounts for existing or new accounts.
  • Opens traditional and Roth IRAs and assists with contributions, distributions, rollovers, and transfers.
  • Identifies and responds to the needs of new and potential customers by listening and clarifying their needs. Refers customers as needed to other Southside Bank departments.
  • Acts as a source of contact for customers for all banking needs and adds self as officer on accounts, where appropriate, to provide personalized service.
  • Maintains strong contact with civic organizations within the community and represents the financial institution at related events.
  • Manages difficult situations with customers and provides positive solutions.

Operational Excellence

  • Maintains confidentiality of all sensitive Bank information.
  • Works in conjunction with the Market Manager to ensure effective and proactive management of the Branch.
  • Manages overall branch office operations to ensure all bank policies and procedures are followed.
  • Analyzes and resolves operational issues as they occur.
  • Directs, motivates, communicates, and leads staff; conducts meetings with branch employees to discuss sales issues, customer service issues, security issues, areas of improvement, new or revised policies and procedures, etc.
  • Monitors and leads efforts to improve branch profitability through managing branch expenses and increasing revenues.
  • In conjunction with the Retail Management team, evaluates and recommends the appropriate staffing needs of the office; interviews and recommends qualified personnel; ensures that adequate employee coverage is maintained to meet the needs of the Bank's customers.
  • Understands and agrees to abide by the policies and procedures established at Southside Bank.
  • Authorizes exceptions to normal operations policy and procedures, when warranted, and where deviation is justified and appropriate.
  • Responsible for complying with audit policies and procedures as they pertain to this position, including the auditing of team cash boxes.
  • Monitors and attempts collection of overdrawn accounts.
  • Ensures balancing of the coin machine, cash recycler, and ATM or ITM is performed while observing proper dual control procedures.
  • Performs activity related to vault transactions, including but not limited to preparing the cash order for the branch.
  • Performs duties in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and related anti-money laundering laws, and in accordance with the Bank's Information Security Program.
  • Must comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Meets or exceeds all operational and sales goals determined by retail management to include balancing, and attendance and others as applicable.
  • Responsible for general appearance of branch ensuring a clean, safe, and inviting environment for both customers and employees.
  • Performs collection item processing such as dealer drafts and foreign items.
  • Trained on commercial loan documents and performs Commercial Loan Closings under $100k, as needed.

Team Relations

  • Maintains a positive and caring atmosphere for customers and employees consistent with the Southside Bank's mission and philosophy.
  • Contributes to a positive team environment with peers in and out of the branch.
  • Continues professional development through training, seminars, membership in professional associations, as applicable.
  • Manages with a motivational style that retains good employees.
  • Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Ensures employees at Southside are in the right position to utilize their talents and experience through the completion of performance appraisals.

Branch Leadership

  • Prospects for new clients by networking, cold calling, advertising or other means of generating interest from potential clients and centers of influence.
  • Plans persuasive approaches and pitches that will convince potential clients to do business with the Bank.
  • Develops a rapport with new clients and sets targets for sales and provides support that will continually improve the relationship.
  • Works with partners to effectively negotiate strategies, risks, and positions to develop proposals that speak to the client's needs, concerns, and objectives with company strategies and operations. Handle objections by clarifying and working through differences to a positive conclusion.
  • Locates or proposes potential business deals by discovering and exploring opportunities with partners and management.
  • Identifies opportunities in market by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements that will lead to an increase in sales
  • Identifies potential clients and the decision makers within the client's organization.
  • Represents the Bank in the community at various social and business functions; promotes the Bank's philosophy and mission in the communities the Bank operates in.
  • Networks within the community and researches various resources and opportunities to develop leads for business development and call activities for potential sponsor groups and customer relationships.
  • Forecasts and tracks sales targets to ensure they are met. Tracks and records activity to meet targets. Ensures that data is entered and managed within the Bank's sales management system when applicable.
  • Works to improve market position, brand awareness, and to achieve financial growth. Focuses on long-term organizational strategic goals, builds key customer relationships, identifies business opportunities, works with our partners to negotiate and closes business deals and maintains extensive knowledge of current market conditions.
  • Works with the lenders, marketing staff, and partners to increase sales opportunities to maximize revenue for the Bank. Sources potential new customers to convert them into clients and continue to grow business in the future.
  • Grows and retains existing accounts by partnering with the lenders and presenting new solutions and services for customers. Calls on customers with partners to make presentations on solutions and services that meet or predict future needs of our customers and prospects.
  • Thorough knowledge of the market and competition to be able to provide the best solutions and services to the customer
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Ensures employee growth and development and provides leadership through example and sharing of knowledge.
  • Ensures that training is provided to all assigned staff for the purpose of enhancing skills required to perform all job tasks efficiently and assigns duties in such a way to maximize customer service.
  • Creates staff schedules that support the activity in the branch ensuring that peak customer traffic periods are well covered by branch personnel.
  • Evaluates staff and makes recommendations for disciplinary action as needed.
  • Supervises branch team in both their work assignments and performance development.
  • Complies with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Reports all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.

Required Education/Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in business, finance or marketing preferred.
  • Minimum two year banking experience preferred.
  • Proficient in typing, 10-key calculator and data entry.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Physical Activity/Dexterity:

Physical Environment Demands:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 75% of the time.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a computer, scanner, computer printer, etc.
  • The person in this position needs to frequently move about inside the branch location to assist customer's transactions, access different machinery, process cash, etc.
  • Constantly positions self to maintain computers in the branch, including under the desks or in a different area of the branch.
  • This person must be able to detect, recognize, and identify customers as they begin assisting them.
  • Must be able to transport 25 pounds of coin a distance of 5-25 feet from a work station to the vault, up to five times a day, depending on how much coin is delivered that day.
    • Motor branches - employee must transport the cash from work booth inside the branch.
    • In-store branches - employee must transport the cash from the coin machine to a bag which is moved to the vault.

Working Conditions/Environment:

  • Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
  • Moderate noise (e.g. business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
