JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Investigator City of Chicago Police Department Bureau of Internal Affairs Number of Positions: 12 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $66, 612.00 Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on 09/04/2025 Under supervision, conducts investigations involving allegations of misconduct including but not limited to Chicago Police Department operations violations, Department Directives and Rules and Regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Conducts audio recorded interviews of complainants, witnesses and employees to gather facts and investigate alleged misconduct and violations of personnel and administrative rules by Chicago Police Department employees * Conducts and completes investigations in a fair, impartial and objective manner. * Conducts site visits to gather physical evidence and examines work records and related documents * Meets with supervisory staff to review status of cases and evaluate work performance in order to resolve performance problems and improve subordinate work performance. * Prepares detailed reports of investigations conducted, including findings, and confers with a supervisor to make disciplinary recommendations as required * Assists Investigators in the conduct of large-scale and complex investigations * Collaborates with management and the City of Chicago Department of Law on legal issues relating to investigative activities as needed * Conduct self-guided research * Maintains records of investigations, correspondence, and related case documentation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training, and Experience * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in the Social Sciences, Criminal Justice, Human Resources or a directly related field, plus five (5) years of work experience in the conduct of investigations of criminal or fraudulent activity OR one (1) year of supervisory work experience in the performance of fact finding analyses and investigative research and reporting; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. * Have an acceptable disciplinary record * Have no outstanding debt to the City of Chicago * Meet acceptable medical usage * Meet acceptable attendance guidelines Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications * A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required * Availability to work any duty watch is required. SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.
