The Revenue Cycle Trainer is responsible for facilitating training programs for new and existing staff members for both pre-access and patient access in the use of departmental systems, procedures, policies, workflows, proper call etiquette and providing specialized support for highly complex workflows and technical EHR system issues with intermittent Supervision/review.
The Revenue Cycle Trainer works with leadership and Quality Assurance teams to identify potential gaps in the current training. This includes working in collaboration with team members and leaders to research, develop, design, and create multi-media training materials for individual, departmental, organizational-wide presentations; as well as performs assorted administrative and operational functions as assigned by the leadership. This position establishes and maintains excellent customer relations with the public, potential clients, caregivers, and fellow employees of the VCU Health System. Services will include, but are not limited to, patient information, physician information, clinic and Health Center information, paging, emergency communication, and other related services. Essential Job Statements Uses knowledge of Epic modules for both pre-access and patient access as well as VCU Health Insurance contracts and guidelines to develop training materials, answer system and workflow questions, and deliver training programs that support the effective use of Epic applications as deployed within Patient Access. Assists management teams within training, pre-access and patient access by identifying associate training needs and incorporating them into a one-time or on-going training program. Provides pre- and post- training competency tests for team members in pre-access and patient access to ensure associates have acquired knowledge and/or skill(s) to perform job roles and responsibilities. Grades test and follow up with associates who score below Department defined acceptable levels. Periodic audits of calls and registrations to identify training opportunities to improve performance of employees, pre-access and Patient Access. Collaborates with the pre-access and Patient Access Leadership to optimize training methods and materials to include train-the-trainer sessions when needed. Continually works to assess needs and collaborate in the development of training solutions that can be integrated into existing training modules or in the development of new modules. Manages the class climate with ground rules and ensures the learning environment is open, engaging, challenging, and geared to an adult audience. Documents operational improvement opportunities and learners' questions during training. Follow up on associate issues, by escalating or researching and communicating resolutions following training. Partners with subject matter experts (SMEs) to deepen knowledge of content as needed. Performs other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects to support the mission of VCUHS and department. Provides assistance to team members. Minimum Qualifications Years and Type of Required Experience: Required: One (1) year experience with related revenue cycle experience within a large hospital or integrated healthcare delivery system. Preferred: Three (3) years relevant revenue cycle experience and 1-2 years' training, teaching or business coaching experience. Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Combination of skills to effectively prepare, analyze, and present data to various audiences. Excellent communication, organizational and customer service skills. Proficient in Medical Terminology and HIPAA * Excellent MS Office skills Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and follow through. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and build relationships. Able to work under stressful conditions while maintaining professionalism. Work will often require flexibility and meeting tight deadlines. Able to prioritize own work. Able to work well on a team. Able to independently develop new educational programs.
