The Project Geologist plans and conducts work requiring judgment and independent evaluation in the development and execution of subsurface exploration techniques. A Project (Engineeering) Geologist acts as a resource and specialist in the application of geologic concepts, analysis, and principles in the discipline. The Project Geologist works with minimal supervision under the designated location manager and senior staff.

The Project Geologist is responsible for the successful execution of projects and preparation of high quality deliverables under their responsible charge. The Project Geologist will manage projects from inception to completion, including solicitation of opportunities, preparation of technical and cost proposals, contracting and contract administration, oversight of field and technical project staff, and preparation of deliverables on schedule and within budget. The Project Geologist is responsible for meeting the company's objectives for quality control and budget management.



Responsibilities

    In both a supervisory capacity and at a project level, plans, develops, coordinates, and directs large and small projects with complex features.
  • Reviews work products for compliance with provisions of the Quality Control Manual.
  • As individual researcher or worker, carries out complex assignments that require the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.
  • As staff specialist, serves as a staff advisor and technical consultant.
  • Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of other professionals, field technicians, and other technical or administrative personnel who assist in specific assignments.
  • Develops and reviews technical and cost proposals, technical deliverables and other documents.
  • Attracts and develops clients; maintains a close relationship with clients throughout and beyond the project term.
  • Assists in establishing policies and technical procedures and assists in developing new markets in professional services.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in geology or equivalent.
  • Professional registration (PG) required. Working towards CEG licensure is expected.
  • Minimum five years of experience as a professional staff-level geologist.
  • Experience managing projects independently and successfully (on time and within budget).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of current regulatory requirements and industry standards for the types of projects performed.
  • Excellent communication skills with clients, contractors, and colleagues.
  • Excellent writing skills, language usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and ability to produce reports that are complete and accurate in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and appropriate application of field and laboratory testing methodologies and related equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience designing and executing subsurface exploration programs, drilling, logging and sampling, geologic data collection, and installing and monitoring of field instrumentation.
  • Consistently demonstrates sound professional judgment, attention to detail and excellent time management.
  • Willingness to travel to complete assignments. Must have valid driver's license and an insurable driving record.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Physical and Environmental Factors:

  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects and materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time. Intermittently walk, stand, kneel, bend, reach and stoop.
  • May be required to work outside normal business hours. Frequent travel may be required including out-of-town assignments.
