A Brief Overview

Reporting to the EVP, the Senior Vice President, Controller will lead the Military Housing accounting function in a fast-paced environment. This strategic and hands-on role will oversee all aspects of financial accounting, reporting, internal controls, compliance, and tax. The SVP, Controller, will partner with senior leadership to ensure scalable financial operations and accurate, timely financial insights. The SVP Controller will be responsible for managing the accounting and financial reporting functions of the Company, with a strong emphasis on system and process improvement, implementing accounting and organizational controls, technical GAAP accounting, and teambuilding.

What you will do



  • Leads and manages Hunt Military Communities' (HMC) accounting function, including HMC corporate, property, development, and construction accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, compliance, and other administrative and support departments. Establishes and implements department goals, directives, and objectives.
  • Serves as a key business partner and financial expert to HMC's executive leadership team and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversees day-to-day accounting operations and reporting for property, development, construction, management company, and other corporate entities. Maintains the general ledger, journal entries, and chart of accounts.
  • Builds and leads high-performing teams, develops succession plans, mentors, and develops best practices. Fosters a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and scalability.
  • Builds and scales accounting infrastructure to support rapid growth, including systems, processes, and talent development.
  • Manages relationships with various Hunt Corporate departments, including accounting, treasury, risk management, human resources, property management, and HCBS shared services. Responsible for corporate-related accounting inquiries, understanding, and explaining HMC and HCI EBITDA and Adjusted Net EBITDA definitions and results.
  • Supports long-range planning and the Company's strategic and tactical initiatives, including ongoing review/evaluation of evolving finance technology and potential fit for HMC (e.g., Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, new/different modules from Yardi, etc.).
  • Owns the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes; ensures timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP at both public-private partnership (PPP) project and management company levels.
  • Oversees the preparation of financial statements and other monthly reports, including loan draw packages, for accuracy and completeness. Ensures timely and accurate completion of close processes by deadlines imposed by corporate, as well as the Company's business agreements.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Ensures compliance with current and future corporate accounting policies, including equity, intercompany, subledgers, debt policies, and others, as required.


Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance Required
  • Master's Degree or advanced degree Preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience. Required and
  • 10+ years in a leadership role with direct people management experience, leading property and corporate accountants in a high-growth environment. Required
  • experience leading accounting through significant growth and transformation events. Required
  • experience with Yardi, RealPage, and MRI. Preferred
  • Strong technical accounting expertise, including GAAP and consolidations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to build teams, implement systems, and lead process improvements.
  • Confident, professional leader with excellent communication skills and the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to drive process improvement and act as an agent for change.
  • Ability to understand and interpret legal documents for M&A support, compliance, partnership, and governance purposes.
  • Ability to explain department workflow in non-financial terms (e.g., telling the story).
  • Ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Joint Ventures (JV) and related accounting and financial concepts.
  • Knowledge of property accounting in a large company setting.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Required
