MAA is currently accepting applications for the position of Airport Planner (Transportation Planner III) within the Office of Planning and Engineering at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Identifying and evaluating facility improvements needed to accommodate airport infrastructure and operational demands of passengers, tenants, and stakeholders using BWI Marshall & Martin State Airport's (MTN) airside, terminal and/or landside facilities in which such efforts will support comprehensive Airport Layout Plans (ALP) and Master Plans and stand-alone planning projects.
  • Assisting in planning, promoting and coordinating BWI Marshall & MTN State Airport's projects and programs in support of the state's capital program.
  • Participating in coordination of ongoing BWI Marshall & MTN State Airport's planning and development efforts with internal and external stakeholders, including the MAA/MDOT staff, airport tenants, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), local/state government, private developers and general public.
  • Independently performing analyses and assisting in the preparation of technical reports and conceptual site plans for airside, terminal and landside airport facility development for BWI Marshall and MTN State Airports.
  • Responsible for reviewing, editing and providing technical feedback on the efforts of professional planning consultants to ensure conformance with Code of Maryland (COMAR), MAA, FAA and other airport planning/design industry criteria & specific guidance/direction.
  • Reviewing MAA design documents to ensure compliance with FAA standards/regulations and compatibility with long-term strategic airport plans, and continuity of prior planning project scope and requirements.

This position is located at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in Anne Arundel County, MD.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree that includes 30 credit hours in Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Transportation Studies, Architecture, Public Administration, Natural Resources Administration, Engineering, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Economics, Public Finance, Political Science, Sociology, Regional Science, Information Technology or Urban Affairs.

Experience: Two years of experience in research and planning projects related to the development and use of land, water, transportation, community or natural resources by assisting in obtaining, analyzing, and conducting research on demographic, socio-economic, political, cultural, geographic or land-use trends*
This experience must include work within the aviation industry, such as airport master planning, aviation management, facilities development, capital improvement programs, or other aviation-related infrastructure projects.

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the specified educational fields for one year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in one of the specified educational fields for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute equivalent U.S. Armed Forces military service experience for civilian experience cited above
