Job Summary

The University of California, Davis Fire Department (UCDFD) is seeking a Contract CPR and First Aid Instructor to deliver CPR, First Aid, Stop the Bleed, and other community training courses. This position plays a vital role in providing high-quality instruction to the UC Davis community, fostering a safer and more prepared campus environment.

The Contract CPR and First Aid Instructor is responsible for facilitating engaging and effective training sessions, ensuring participants gain the skills and confidence necessary to respond to emergencies, activate the 911 system, and perform life-saving interventions until help arrives. In collaboration with the AHA Training Center Coordinator and EMS Captain, the instructor ensures course materials, training equipment, and supplies are ready for each session, provides feedback to participants to ensure successful course completion, and cleans, maintains, and inventories equipment and supplies at the end of each course. They also ensure that course rosters, skills tests, and evaluations are submitted, and all documentation is completed per course requirements.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Current certification as a CPR Instructor through a nationally recognized organization such as the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • At least two (2) years of experience teaching CPR, First Aid, or other life-saving courses to diverse audiences within the last five (5) years.
  • Ability to deliver hands-on skills instruction effectively in classroom environments, assess participant learning and performance, and ensure compliance with certification standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current licensure or certification as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or higher (Paramedic, Registered Nurse (RN), Physician Assistant (PA), or Physician).
  • Associate degree or higher in emergency medical services, education, health sciences, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering CPR, First Aid, Stop the Bleed, or other community education courses using effective teaching methodologies to engage diverse participants.
  • Proven ability to manage course logistics, including scheduling and coordinating assistant instructors, with proficiency in learning management systems (LMS) and simulation-based tools.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities to foster an inclusive learning environment and adapt to changing program needs.

Department Overview

The Contract CPR and First Aid Instructor operates under the general direction of the UCDFD EMS Division Head, AHA Training Center Coordinator, and EMS Captain. This position collaborates with other EMS Division staff to coordinate and deliver high-quality CPR, First Aid, Stop the Bleed, and other community training courses for the UC Davis campus. The incumbent is responsible for conducting training sessions that equip participants with life-saving skills, ensuring that course objectives are met, and providing constructive feedback to participants to enhance their competence and confidence. Responsibilities include managing logistics such as setting up, maintaining, and sanitizing training equipment, as well as transporting materials to various locations on or around campus as needed. The instructor serves as the primary point of contact during training sessions, addressing participant questions and ensuring compliance with course policies. They manage all course documentation, including attendance records and evaluations, to ensure accurate reporting and alignment with program requirements. Additionally, the instructor oversees student and volunteer assistant instructors during training courses, ensuring the course objectives are met. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional who is organized, detail-oriented, and capable of balancing instructional and logistical duties. Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Work schedules will vary and include nights, weekends, and variable hours to support instruction, and classes held outside of standard business hours. Schedule -Classes are generally scheduled on the first, second, and third Saturdays of each month. Specific hours and times may vary based on course demand and the type of training being delivered. -Additional classes may be scheduled during weekdays, evenings, and weekends to meet program and community needs. -Planning meetings with the AHA Training Center Coordinator and EMS Captain will be arranged as necessary during regular business hours The incumbent is responsible for adhering to all safety guidelines, protocols, and processes while performing job duties in various environments, including classrooms, outdoors, and other settings where training may be performed.
