Purchasing Manager - Live Operations

Job Summary

Oversee the team responsible for managing feed ingredient requirements including, scheduling, management of delivery logistics, inventory management, and cross-functional support for AP, nutrition, and feed milling departments. Assists with overseeing commodity purchasing, futures trading, futures positions, and implementing long-term departmental strategy.

Key Responsibilities

* Manages and supervises a team of entry to established level individual contributors and/or supervisors. Provides guidance, coaching, and support to ensure successful delivery of department goals. Responsible for HR activities such as hiring, terminations, performance management, goal setting, team member development, scheduling, etc.

* Ensure work is performed safely and in compliance with all regulations, contractual agreements, and company policies.

* Oversee the sourcing of all materials and services, development and maintenance of spend data, development and maintenance of strategic sourcing worksheets, development and implementation of supply and service contracts, and processes and practices.

* Maintains a thorough understanding of location needs to ensure adequate supplies for all production schedules. Uses discretion to resolve urgent supply shortages, which may include approving a higher spend for rapid delivery and/or making emergency pickups to avoid unscheduled downtime.

* Maintains a thorough understanding of organizational needs, including staying up to date with market trends, anticipating procurement needs, and securing desirable pricing.

* Cultivates and maintains strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors to ensure quality, reliability, and timely delivery. Resolves any issues or discrepancies with suppliers.

* Conducts regular supplier evaluations and negotiates terms and conditions for contracts, including pricing, delivery schedules, and payment terms.

* Identifies opportunities for cost savings through strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, process improvements, market opportunities, through collaboration with the nutrition department to evaluate alternative ingredient pricing opportunities, and through risk management. Implements cost-effective practices.

* Collaborates cross-functionally to ensure all metrics are achieved. Monitor and implement strategies to reduce excess or obsolete inventory while ensuring sufficient stock for production and operational requirements.

* Oversees the team and outside partners to ensure effective communication, planning, problem solving, coordinating, tracking, receiving, and distribution of inventory to multiple feed mill locations to avoid unscheduled downtime related to feed ingredient availability.

Minimum Qualifications (Educations & Experience)

* High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

* 6+ years of relevant experience or the knowledge, skills and abilities to succeed in the role

* 2+ years of leadership experience or the knowledge, skills, and abilities to succeed in the role

* Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop, mentor, coach, support and motivate a team

* Substantial knowledge of procurement methodologies, inventory management, and/or supply chain best

* Strong communication, presentation, and collaboration skills with the ability to interact at all levels internally and externally

* Highly skilled at resource management, delegation, and prioritizing deliverables

* Proficient technology skills including Microsoft Suite, MTech, and Teams

* Solid negotiation skills with the ability to foster strategic relationships

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

* Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent

Physical Demands

* While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, keyboard, and occasionally lift up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

* Work is performed in a climate-controlled office environment.

* The noise level of the office environment is usually moderate.

* Occasional travel may be required.
