That's why we're looking for a Compliance Attorney to help us elevate the management of our client engagement process and provide recommendations for resolution.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for...



  • Providing quality assurance review of engagement letters to ensure conformity with arrangements approved in file opening
  • Reviewing complex legal documents, including Outside Counsel Guidelines, Billing Guidelines, Non-Disclosure Agreements, and Contracts; and providing analysis to the appropriate Firm Committees
  • Ensuring retainers are received and deviations are approved by Business Intake
  • Maintaining and working to improve the structure and functionality of the Compliance Management database; tracking all Compliance related documents for firm records
  • Working with the appropriate Information Technology and Operations groups to develop new workflows to automate current compliance processes/procedures
  • Creating internal compliance and best practices rules and guidelines for efficient resolutions and clearance


The successful candidate will demonstrate...



  • Juris Doctor (JD) or Master of Laws (LLM) degree required
  • A minimum of five years of related legal and/or compliance experience
  • Knowledge of the contracts administration process, including applicable laws/regulations and bidding and awarding processes; knowledge of the System for Award Management (SAM) a plus
  • Understanding of a client engagement process
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; strong attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze complex documents to manage risk to the organization
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communications skills; ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively as part of a team and ability to influence and motivate others
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experience with Microsoft Access and Project a plus; ability to learn new systems


Pay Range for Candidates in Baltimore, MD: $120,000 - $140,000 per year


The range provided is the minimum and maximum salary that Venable in good faith believes at the time of this posting that it is willing to pay for the advertised position. Exact compensation will be determined based on individual candidate qualifications and location.
