For more information, please visit about.springernature.com and follow @SpringerNature About the Role The Group Tax team of Springer Nature is looking for a Tax Associate on a full-time basis. You will be part of the US tax team, comprising of 2 employees, as well as closely cooperate with the tax team in Berlin, Germany, comprising of 18 employees. The role will cover the US, Canada, and countries in South America. As a Tax Associate, you will be responsible for tax data and tax compliance process quality (including organizing documentation) and be part of the ongoing tax transformation and optimization initiatives within Springer Nature. You will manage indirect tax and withholding tax compliance for, amongst others, the US and Canada, support tax audits, and answer tax-related questions from other departments. We are a team that embraces out-of-the-box thinking and technology-driven processes. You will gain detailed (global) indirect tax and business knowledge by working closely with your tax colleagues, other departments, and through external and internal training. This role is based in our Jersey City, NJ office on a hybrid working model. Responsibilities Strengthen system-driven tax data and tax compliance process quality (including organizing documentation). Support tax-relevant transformation and change processes (e.g., ERP modernization projects, tax determination/compliance tool optimization, automation of manual tax-related processes). Manage sales/use tax, indirect tax, and withholding tax compliance for, amongst others, the US and Canada, i.e., tax return preparation, filing, and timely submission of returns, including tax accounting and tax reconciliation activities for monthly close. Support tax audits. Support the resolution of tax-related inquiries, e.g., Accounting, Sales, Fulfillment, Customer Service, and Collections. Assist with the annual filing of Forms 1042. Support the Tax team responsible for direct taxes by organizing timely payments for quarterly estimates, tax return balances due, and notice payments. Experience, Skills, Qualifications Essential You embrace out-of-the-box thinking and technology-driven processes and solutions. You have an international, cross-functional, and cross-divisional collaborative working approach. BS degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience in preparing/filing tax returns (including but not limited to US sales and use tax). Strong data analytic skills linked with proficiency in MS Excel, Pivot Tables, and VLOOKUP. You have excellent communication skills. Desirable SAP and Vertex knowledge. You have gained experience with system-driven tax determination, tax-relevant master data, and tax reporting with an advisory firm or in a corporate environment. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level, and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
