The Recreation Supervisor organizes activities and programs which support the constructive use of the resident's leisure time. The organized, directed activities are designed to enhance the individual's self-esteem, focus on the importance of appropriate interpersonal relationships, identify and develop needed social skills. The Recreation Supervisor identifies community resources and works with community programs so that recreation and the constructive use of leisure time is seen as a vital step in the process of mainstreaming children back into the community.


Description

Job Responsibilities



  • Plans, coordinates, organizes, supervises, and directs the daily recreation and leisure time activities for residents.
  • Teaches individual esteem enhancing skills to residents, including sportsmanship, team play and social skill development.
  • Utilizes creative skills in developing and enhancing an age appropriate variety of physical activity, as well as quiet time pursuits.
  • Maintains an appropriate, cost effective inventory of recreation equipment, games, et al, conducive to the individual as well as resident group needs.
  • Provides leadership and structure appropriate competitive endeavors and tournaments.
  • Observes and maintains vigilance regarding the health, safety and security of residents in all recreation endeavors.
  • Ensures program compliance with State Regulations.
  • Maintains an ongoing written recreation schedule updated as required and adapted to resident interest.
  • Provides input to case managers regarding the recreation participation of each resident.
  • Adheres to agency policies and procedures; promotes and supports agency mission, vision and values including participating in internal surveys and data collection for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assumes responsibility to manage and reduce risk where it is seen in his or her area(s) of responsibility and to report it if it is outside of her or her area(s) of responsibility or assistance is needed to resolve the matter.
  • Assures that health and safety risks are controlled or removed.
  • Assumes full responsibility for all controls that youth have not yet exercised.
  • Helps assure that the treatment and clinical needs of youth are addressed
  • Ability to work with an economically and culturally diverse population.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.



Education & Work Experience Requirements



  • Demonstrated four years of full-time paid employment providing direct leadership in recreation programming for juveniles (ages 10-15) in an institutional setting, school, YMCA or other suitable equivalent.
  • Bachelor's degree (required)
  • Valid New York State driver's license.
  • Able to work with a culturally and economically diverse population.



Salary



  • The annual salary for this position is $75,000. This position is exempt and is not eligible for overtime.
