Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineering Senior Technician provides hands on technical support in the development, assembly, and test of engineering prototype and support failure analysis of production products.

Directs and coordinates fabrication, installation, operation, application, maintenance and repair of mechanical or electromechanical machines, equipment, tools, engines and systems | Ensures that quality levels and industry standards are maintained or improved in the manufacturing process | Oversees installation, operation, maintenance and repair of equipment such as centralized heat, gas, water and steam systems | Evaluates mechanical products to determine their cost effectiveness and efficiency | May evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate malfunctions

Essential Functions

  • Assists mechanical engineers in the planning and testing of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery, such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc.
  • Helps prepare proposals and cost estimates.
  • Estimates workload to establish completion dates.



Additional Responsibilities

Support all aspects of production engineering and testing. Be the go-to person for test stand and gun system maintenance, test and equipment logs, and formal root cause/corrective action investigations. Support ongoing engineering test programs to include fire test, ammunition test, and equipment acceptance testing.



Required Qualifications

  • Required education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 2-5 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred education and experience: Associate degree
  • Discipline/Major: Technical training preferred
  • Knowledge, skills & abilities: Oral and written communication skills. Mathematical skills. Computer skills. Technical expertise. Detail oriented. Debugging. Engineering support. Project scoping. Prototyping. Testing result reporting. CAD software. Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) software. Experience with fabrication, blueprint reading, drawing tolerances, machining, welding, and technical problem solving. High Speed Video (HSV) equipment experience. Quality Systems for nonconformance material, material review board and control of material.


Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
  • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
  • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
  • Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
  • May be requested to work a different shift.
  • Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.


Travel Requirements

Less than 25% travel likely.

Pay Range (USD)

$43,820.00 - $81,380.00


Pay Transparency Statement

The salary range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum for salary for this position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, internal equity, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the range during the hiring process.


Additional Compensation

Hired applicant may be eligible to participate in the Company's Gain Sharing Program.
