Overview

We're seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Sr. Specialist to lead planning, coordination, and execution of underground transmission operations across Extra High Voltage systems. This role is pivotal in ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable transmission infrastructure through proactive scheduling, cross-functional collaboration, and real-time problem-solving.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead planning and scheduling of all underground transmission feeder work, including O&M and capital projects.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Substation Operations, System Operations, Electric Operations, and Corrosion Control teams to align on project goals and execution.
  • Serve as Incident Commander during field operations, including emergency response.
  • Develop and manage internal work schedules and resource plans for inspection programs, leak detection, corrosion control, and dielectric fluid patrols.
  • Review and update project documentation, diagrams, and job sequences.
  • Monitor and report on KPIs, budget targets, and progress toward operational goals.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Facilitate daily and weekly planning meetings, including the 0635 Morning Operations Meeting.
  • Interface with contractors for specialized services (e.g., X-rays, manhole cleaning, liquid nitrogen delivery).
  • Utilize enterprise systems including Maximo, Engage, GIS, Oracle EBS, and Microsoft Office tools for scheduling and reporting.
  • Oversees and monitors operations required for the installation, testing and preparation for low pressure cable systems/Extra High Voltage Systems and associated equipment.
  • Provide support to Extra High Voltage and High-Pressure desk work as needed.
  • Complete monthly QA/QC on Low Pressure job briefing in Engage as per General Environmental Health and Safety Instructions (GEHSI S24.07)

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of experience in cable splicing associated with underground Transmission Cable Systems or underground Distribution Cable Systems. or
  • Associate's Degree and 5 years of experience in cable splicing associated with underground Transmission Cable Systems or underground Distribution Cable Systems. or
  • High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of experience in cable splicing associated with underground Transmission Cable Systems or underground Distribution Cable Systems.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Relevant Work Experience
  • Proficiency in job sequencing, scheduling and workforce resource loading. Required
  • Working knowledge and familiarity with transmission splicing, low-pressure transmission feeder functions and high-pressure pipe type feeder operation. Required
  • Relevant work experience in the installation and operation of high-pressure and low-pressure cable systems. Required
  • Proficiency in the use of Maximo, Engage, GIS, Oracle EBS system and Microsoft Office (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Required
  • Supervisory experience (at least 3 years) Required
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills. Required
  • Must have the ability to plan the work, anticipate issues, make recommendations and take action to ensure that project schedules are met. Required
  • Must be able to read and follow splice drawings and piping schematic diagrams. Required
  • Ability to analyze and interpret X-Rays of cable joints including connectors and shielding to detect abnormalities and deficiencies. Required
  • Ability to build strong customer relationship through Safety, Operational Excellence and Customer Experience. Required
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Required
  • Ability to work in a team environment to demonstrate leadership to drive efficiencies and improve operational effectiveness. Required
  • Demonstrated high commitment to quality and workmanship. Required
  • Ability to make presentations and attend meetings with executives and/or senior leadership as required. Required
  • Experience reading prints involving hydraulic diagrams, wiring, schematics and curve sheets. Preferred
  • 3 years of related work experience in low pressure cable work. Low pressure experience to include oil treatment (processing), relay experience, soldering, tubing installation, read and adjust of reservoirs and responding to alarms. Preferred

  • Other: Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card Preferred
Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be willing and able to work in underground manhole structures (electrical enclosed space), elevated heights (bridges and pothead structures) and in underground tunnels for extended durations as required
  • Must be willing and able to work in an electrical substation and generating stations as required
  • Must be willing & able to wear required PPE (i.e. rescue harness, respirator (1/2 & full face), FR clothing, Tyvek coverall, safety shoes, gloves, hard hat, safety glasses and face shield, safety vest, hearing protection, etc.) as required
  • Must be willing and able to climb ladders and stairs throughout shift as required
  • Must be willing and able to push, pull, lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be willing and able to work in extreme environmental work conditions for extended durations as required (i.e. inclement weather conditions including hot, cold, humid, dry, rainy, snow conditions, etc.)
  • Must be willing and able to work full rotating 8 and/or 12 hour shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be willing and able to participate in the Companys emergency management processes and storm plans as required
  • Must be willing and able to travel both in and out of the Con Edison service territory, as required
  • Must be approved and willing to wear a tight fitting respirator, including half and full face respirator, without facial hair or other condition that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
  • Must be willing and able to sit or stand working in an office environment for an entire shift using a computer system (monitors, mouse, keyboard)
  • Must be able to work in field locations for an entire shift
  • Must be willing and able to stoop, bend, reach and kneel throughout the workday
  • Must be willing and able to read small print lettering, diagrams and symbols
  • Must be willing and able to attain NYS & NYC Asbestos Supervisor licenses
  • Must be willing and able to attain CDL Class B drivers license
  • Must be willing and able to attain NYC FDNY Certificate of Fitness licenses as required
